Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary surprised the speaker because it prioritizes storytelling craft over agenda, despite his initial suspicion it would target Christians or push an ideology. Weir is a bloody good writer, and the upcoming film adaptation has him excited.
was political or it was sexual identity or— and it was just bullshit after bullshit. And I remember picking up this book thinking, oh, what the hell? First of all, Hail Mary. Oh, bloody hell, it's going to have a go at Christians. Guy in space. Oh, bloody hell, they're going to try and weave something in there. And you know what? It was a delightful surprise. It's just a bloody good book. The guy has focused on craft and not on some other bollocks that's floating around. He's a bloody good writer. The Martian was a brilliant story, brilliant movie, and I am really looking forward to seeing this as a movie to come out.
