In this YouTube short, Dr. John A. King, a former sheep and cattle herder who funded his college education through ranch work, offers a vivid personal endorsement of Louis L'Amour’s early novel Hondo. He emphasizes that the book’s descriptive power is so strong he can literally “smell the saddle wax” and feel the outback environment, a reaction rooted in his own ranch‑life experience. King praises L’Amour’s writing as “phenomenal,” declares the novel “full brilliant, full send,” and notes his intention to read more of L’Amour’s works, though he likely won’t tackle the entire 200‑book catalog. The clip serves as a concise, sensory‑driven recommendation aimed at viewers who appreciate immersive Western storytelling.
