A demonstration video by Dr. Shervin Naderi showing lip augmentation using Juvederm Ultra on a 24-year-old volunteer. The speaker explains anesthesia (2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine), differences between Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, and compares Juvederm to Restylane and older collagen fillers.

Hi. Today we're going to demonstrate injection of the lips with Juvederm. We have different series of injections on the website with both Juvederm and Restylane. Our volunteer is a 24 year old young lady who wants to get fuller lips, both the tops and the bottoms. Going to do an injection technique with the aid of a dental block which I use 2% lidocaine with 1 to 100,000 epinephrine. The lidocaine allows for the lips to become numb and epinephrine actually helps with the bleeding, lessens it and less bruising. I'm going to demonstrate both techniques and we'll get started. But just a little bit about Juvederma first. Juvederma is made by the same makers of Botox, which is the company Allergan. It's been in the US for several years now. It comes in two different forms, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. The Ultra plus is a slightly thicker substance which lasts longer. It can be done in the lips, but it does create more bruising because the larger needles need it most of the time. I reserve that for deep nasolabial folds, which are the fold in this area which Sarah does not have, or around the corner of the mouth or the mid face area if you're trying to fill that those voids. She only needs her lips injected today. So we're going to choose Juvederm Ultra, which is a very fine buttery substance. It's similar to Restylane. It's a little bit more concentrated than Restylane. It lasts just a little bit longer than Restylane, but the same similar molecular binding structure which is a hyaluronic acid. It's a natural substance already found in the body. Everybody already has it within their skin. Skin, it's the matrix that surrounds the collagen fibers. Collagen is used much less frequently these days, as I've mentioned before, because of the fact that it goes away too quickly, lasts about a month to at the most three months.
