Board-certified plastic surgeons train 5-6 years in general surgery plus 2 years in plastic surgery, while facial plastic surgeons do 5 years in head and neck surgery then 1 year in facial work. While there's all sorts of cosmetic surgeons and cosmetic aesthetic service providers these days for chemical peels and Botox and even cheek lifts, there's essentially only two types of plastic surgeons that perform rhinoplasties Board certified plastic surgeons and board certified facial plastic surgeons. The plastic surgery training background involves five to six years of general surgery where the surgeons train mostly in the abdominal structures, followed by two years of plastic surgery where again they train on the entire body. Out of this time period they spend about three months to six months on the face. In facial plastic surgery, the training background is five years of head and neck surgery followed by one additional year of purely facial plastic surgery. Again, while both types of specialties can do excellent work on the nose, that doesn't guarantee excellent results. Again, board certification, the experience of the surgeon looking at before after pictures and a lot more homework is involved before you trust your nose to any surgeon.
