Pride will destroy you. It really will. God wants you to overcome that pridefulness. And I tell myself, because I struggled with this as well, and I think everyone does, I need to have more fear of God than I need to have fear of man. Like, I need to care more about what God thinks about what I'm doing than I do what my girlfriends think about what I'm doing. And that is when everything shifted for me, and it sounds like for you as well.
