Dr. Tabatha Barber explains how a leaky gut lets substances into the bloodstream that trigger the immune system to attack your body. She recommends stool testing and food sensitivity testing, then removing triggers while healing the gut so antibodies decline.

This perfect storm happens and activates those genes. And so if you have an autoimmune condition, it's imperative that you heal your gut. That is the only way to stop the immune response. Because autoimmune means your own immune system is attacking your body. It shouldn't do that. It should attack foreign things. It's trying to protect you from viruses, pesticides, parasites, all the stuff that comes into your body. But. But it's overactive, it's confused, it's angry, and it's attacking you. And so when we heal our gut, we stop things from coming into our bloodstream, into our body that shouldn't be there. And that is the only way that you can finally calm your immune system down. And so many of us develop food sensitivities during this time because food particles, undigested foods, proteins that our blood shouldn't see, are getting through the gut. That's what leaky gut is into our bloodstream. And our immune system is reacting in an effort to protect us. It is. Your body's always working for you. That's, like, key here. So don't be mad at your autoimmune condition. Figure out what is triggering that, that immune response and remove that trigger so that your immune system can calm down. So what we do in my practice is we do stool testing, we do food sensitivity testing, and together, while we heal your gut, remove the food sensitivities that are happening so your immune system can calm down, those antibodies can go away, you'll stop reacting to those foods, and you can almost always bring them back and no longer be creating all of that destruction.
