In this short video, Dr. Tabatha Barber explains that the drop in estrogen during menopause fundamentally alters a woman's physiology. Even with hormone replacement, estrogen levels never return to pre‑menopausal levels, leading to shifts in the immune, cardiovascular, and metabolic systems. She notes that many women develop new autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and celiac disease after menopause. Additionally, the risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes rises sharply, with stroke and heart disease becoming the leading causes of death among menopausal women. Menopause also increases insulin resistance, raising the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes.
