Dr. Tabatha Barber says women who fasted for weight loss alone regained it, but those who treated fasting as spiritual practice and "fed their soul" saw lasting results. She frames fasting as worship and encourages couples to fast together.
Chapters
God downloaded fast to faith to me through all of this revelation, because I was teaching women how to fast. I would teach them all the physical benefits, and they would lose all the weight, and then they would go back and live their life and gain it all and come back next year and do the program next year. I'm like, didn't you just do this last year? Yep, we all doing it again. And he said, you not only need to teach them how to fast, but how to fast feed their soul. So when I brought Jesus into this program, it just blew up. Everything shifted. Because women need Jesus. Men do, too. And here's the most beautiful part. Women do this program, and their husbands are like, can't I do it? I want to feel like you and lose the weight and do all the things. Then the husbands are doing it, and they're thanking me. So it's really beautiful when couples do things together to get healthy, because it bonds you and it brings you closer and you can support each other. And I'm in awe every day of what God is doing and just the opportunities to create impact and lasting change. So I want you to start thinking of fasting as a form of worship, as a form of loving your body. Where I come from, everybody's trying to fill that void with shopping and sex and boats and trips and all the things, and they just need to talk to God.
