Dr. Tabatha Barber explains inflammation as a cell energy crisis: when cells can't clear metabolic waste, free radicals damage mitochondria, DNA, and the membranes where hormone receptors live. This receptor damage disrupts insulin, vitamin D, and sex hormone signaling, driving disease.
Chapters
That is what inflammation is, a cell that cannot make enough energy and cannot clear the exhaust. So now this extra exhaust, free radicals, float around and they start to damage your cell. They damage the mitochondria. They will damage your DNA, cause gene mutation, turn on your bad genes like the BRCA gene. You can keep that gene turned off. Free radicals damage it and turn it on. The free radicals will damage your cell membranes, your nuclear membranes. These membranes are made of fats. That's where a lot of the receptors sit. It— receptors are the keyholes for the key to fit in. So you have an insulin receptor, vitamin D receptor, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid— all these keyholes. A lot of them are in the cell membrane, and free radicals damage. It's like taking a hammer to the keyhole.
