Dr. Tabatha Barber explains why excess protein can stall weight loss unless you're exercising heavily, recommends ketosis to sidestep the problem early on, then cycling protein intake later. No single diet works for everyone.

You cannot lose weight if you're eating too much protein and not utilizing it effectively. So if you're working out in the gym for two hours, you probably will use all that protein and still be able to lose weight. I think the best way to do it is to get into ketosis, not eat too many excess grams of protein or carbohydrates. And once you get into the weight that you're more comfortable at, that you feel good at, then we transition you to a higher protein diet. And sometimes it's even good to cycle the amount of protein the way that we teach you to cycle carbohydrates. So I don't love any one diet. I don't think there's any one way to eat and live.
