Dr. Tabatha Barber explains how long-term proton pump inhibitors lower stomach acid below the healthy pH of 1.5-2, often to 4-6, which blocks nutrient absorption. Stress also reduces acid production, and decades-long PPI prescriptions may constitute malpractice.

So important. So important. But I'm glad that you brought up the stomach acid issue because that is one of the biggest issues that we see as women come to us on PPIs, those proton pump inhibitors. We just had somebody last week. She's been on it for 20 years. First of all, that's malpractice. Like, that just screams not okay with me. But second of all, you can't even have any stomach acid production because it's preventing the stomach acid production. And stress lowers our stomach acid production. So so many of us are walking around with a ph of four or five or six when it should be one and a half to two. And yeah, we're spending all this money and then we're not even even absorbing our supplements or our food. And, like, it's all connected. So I thank you for helping women understand, like, how all this works together and how important it is.
