This is a YouTube video titled "SAL Solutions 05SEP2025" containing a monologue or presentation recorded on September 5, 2025. The speaker discusses innovative financial lending structures, specifically a shared appreciation mortgage adapted for founders and businesses in challenging industries like cannabis. The content focuses on creative capital solutions rather than a multi-speaker conversation.
So this morning I was asked about a multi party lending agreement that can benefit both the lender and the founder. And it brought to mind about Thomas Edison and how he synthesized some ideas that actually had to do with burning coal. And that's how we ended up getting essentially the modern light bulb that's been used for a lot of times in finance we do that. And there's a product called a shared appreciation mortgage that's been out. It's used by numerous mortgage lending type government organizations that help people get into homes. Well, we've done that actually with founders. And one particular case that I can think of is in the cannabis industry, which was very difficult to lend in. It's a statewide only approved scenario, so you can't have federal lending, banking. All of those type of scenarios that have been challenging is we brought a solution to a cannabis business where they were expanding their retail operation. And so as the lender, we were able to lend on the current business, yet we wanted to share in that appreciation in the long run. So we give them a fixed or a relatively low interest rate with a repayment schedule and for the lifetime. Because we helped grow that company, we were able to take a piece in forever revenue, which of course could be bought out for some level, but that is a structure of doing a shared appreciation loan. And the interesting part was I was talking to a good friend who has in his past raised well over a billion dollars for his own founded ventures and he had never heard something like that. So it is something. In Silicon Valley they call them safes in certain ways, but this is something that is unique to the founder's office in certain manners, or at least in the creativity of it. There's lots of ways to skin the cat. It all comes back down to clarity of capital equals what you need to raise. Have a great day.
