Two speakers debate how Trump might regulate AI, sketching two paths: advisors grow alarmed by safety work at OpenAI and Anthropic, or a serious incident forces action. One bets the administration will introduce a preliminary framework before the next election, framed as a trade deal it can refine later.
I also think it's totally possible Trump regulates AI too.
What's that scenario? If the— because it's not popular opinion, right? A lot of people want him to do it. He doesn't want to do it. You're saying if his advisors start telling him something different or—
Yeah, I think there's a world where like the advisors really internalize that OpenAI and Anthropic are being genuine and they start to get scared. And that's like one possibility. And then there's another possibility where something like really bad actually happens during his term. And it kind of forces his hand. I think these are both possible.
Do you think that we're on track for that right now? Like David Sacks called out regulatory capture on their All-In podcast. Then they come out and, you know, some more stuff happens. Specifically, Elon says that he supports what Dario and Sam are saying.
Yeah.
And then David Sacks says—
I would actually bet that we see AI regulation during Trump's term. I think it's more likely than not. They're going to make a preliminary framework to begin the regulatory process of AI. It's like saying, and then it's like a trade deal. They're like, oh no, this is our first framework, and then they'll refine it afterward. But that way, come election time, they'll be like, we regulated AI, we're the first ones to do it.
