In the inaugural episode of the "Awakening the Spiritual Mind" podcast, host Elizabeth Carrio introduces herself as an author, coach, nonprofit consultant, and explorer of transpersonal psychology. She invites listeners to download a free Awakening Journal and explains that the podcast expands on her book, Awakening the Spiritual Mind. Carrio describes the book’s urgency, positioning it as a guide for people who feel a lingering, unarticulated ache beneath daily achievement—a longing for wholeness, clarity, and authentic living. She argues that contemporary culture separates body, mind, and spirit, and that an integrative, transpersonal approach is needed in medicine and psychology. The core of the work is a three‑step path to spiritual‑psychological transformation: (1) gathering insight about oneself and one’s environment, (2) turning inward to cultivate intuition, presence, and deep listening, and (3) acting from wholeness, integrating emotional, somatic, intuitive, and spiritual intelligences. Carrio shares personal anecdotes of feeling “fine on the surface but restless underneath,” framing the book as an invitation rather than a checklist. She guides listeners through a brief journaling exercise, asking them to identify where they feel a quiet ache and what wholeness would look like for them, emphasizing non‑judgmental, free writing. The episode closes with a call to keep the journal, share the podcast, and preview the next episode’s focus on the first step of the three‑stage journey.
Chapters
Welcome to Awakening the Spiritual Mind, the podcast. My name is Elizabeth Carrio. I am an author, a coach, a consultant for nonprofit and public sector organizations. I am also an explorer of transpersonal psychology. Before we begin, I invite you to download the free Awakening Journal, your companion for this journey. You can get it on my website, elizabeth-carrio.com. This podcast is born from my book, Awakening the Spiritual Mind, but it's more than a book. It is a journey. And today, in the first episode, I want to share why this work matters now more than ever. I would like now to read you some passages of my book, Awakening the Spiritual Mind.
Why this book matters now. This book is a guide for those who feel a quiet ache beneath the surface of daily life, a longing for wholeness, clarity, and a more authentic way of being. In a world that often separates body from spirit, reason from intuition, and health from meaning, we are in urgent need of new maps. Awakening the Spiritual Mind invites you to explore not only how to feel better, but how to live with greater coherence. Its purpose is to support your well-being, help you find your place in a changing world, and liberate you from unconscious cultural conditioning. It also calls on the fields of medicine and psychology to adopt a truly integrative approach, one that sees the human being as a whole. Where body, mind, and soul are deeply interconnected. When we return to this unity, we do more than treat symptoms; we create the inner conditions for healing, meaning, and real transformation. This book is not only meant to be read; it is meant to be lived. This book will help you come home to yourself. Are you tired of performing, striving, or feeling like something essential is missing no matter how much you achieve? Awakening the Spiritual Mind is not another book of tips or spiritual clichés. It's a transformational journey, a mirror held up to your deepest self. Through stories, archetypes, inner practices, and soul-level questions, you will learn to... Reclaim your inner clarity and sense of direction. Heal patterns that keep you stuck in roles, beliefs, or fears. Reconnect with your spiritual intelligence. This book is different. It does not offer formulas; it offers a path rooted in transpersonal psychology, archetypal wisdom, and the lived truth of the author's own awakening. This book is urgent because many of us are spiritually starved in a world full of noise. It is necessary because we are not here to perform; we are here to become real. And it is accessible because you don't need to be perfect; you just need to begin. A Journey Toward Internal Peace. This book proposes a 3-step path toward greater balance, Well-Being and Inner Peace: A Map for Spiritual and Psychological Transformation, grounded in both lived experience and integrative research. The first step invites us to gather insight, to learn more about ourselves and the environment that shapes us. The second step guides us to turn inward, creating space for intuition, presence, and deep listening. In a world that prizes performance and speed, this step invites retreat and reconnection— not with ideology, but with body, soul, and symbolic awareness. Finally, we explore how to act from wholeness, returning to the world with renewed clarity. When you have listened deeply, you begin to respond to life not from habit or fear but from alignment. At this stage, you draw upon all your intelligences— emotional, somatic, intuitive, and spiritual— to live and serve from your authentic center. You may feel a malaise or be in burnout. This ache may be the signal, a call to start a quest for meaning.
When I wrote these lines, I was not only describing an idea, I was speaking from experience. There were moments in my own life when, on the surface, everything seemed fine. I was working, achieving, moving forward. But underneath, I felt a quiet ache, a restlessness no success could silence. Maybe you have felt something similar, like a question humming in the background of your days. Is this really all there is? Many of us carry this feeling without naming it. We call it stress or exhaustion or even failure, but deep down it is something else. It is not just stress, it's a longing to feel that our life is not fragmented but aligned. This is why I've wrote Awakening the Spiritual Mind. Not as another item on your to-do list, but as an invitation. An invitation to create space to listen, to breathe, to remember what matters. Because when we pause, even briefly, something shifts. We touch a part of ourselves that is not defined by pressure or productivity, but by presence. So as you listen to these episodes, don't feel you have to learn more or do more. Instead, Give yourself permission to slow down, to hear your own inner voice. This is the beginning of awakening, a quiet return to what is truly yours. If you have your journal, take it out now. If not, grab any notebook. Write down the answer to these questions: Where in my life do I feel a quiet ache, a sense that something essential is missing? What would wholeness look like for me right now? Not perfection, but wholeness. Give yourself a few minutes to write freely. Don't judge, just let the words come. This was our first steps together in Awakening the Spiritual Mind, the podcast. If today's reflection spoke to you, Keep your awakening journal close. It will guide you further, episode after episode. Thank you for listening. If you feel inspired, share this podcast with someone who may need it, and join me next time as we begin the journey in three main stages. And the first one will be collecting information. The first step toward Knowing yourself better and understanding your environment.
