Adrian Reid (YouTube) warns against naive assumptions about trading — it is high-level competition requiring humility and craft. He frames trading as a vocation that takes time and energy to learn but contrasts it with long professional training: he claims one can be taught from beginner to mastery in about six months (with time and resource investment). The clip emphasizes realistic expectations, humility, and deliberate learning.

Many people will come to the market. So I'm a smart person. I can learn to trade. I know how to manage my risk. I'll be okay. I'll figure it out. And they just start buying and selling stocks thinking that they can compete. What they don't realize is that it's a competition. It's a very high level competition. It's probably the toughest competition in the world. And so the mistake is coming into the markets naively thinking it's easy. And the way you get around that is be humble. Realize that you're learning a craft, you're learning a vocation or a career. And that's going to take some time and energy to learn. The good thing is you don't have to go to university for four years and end up in hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loans in order to learn to trade. You can learn to trade in a few in several months. My typically I teach my students to go from beginner to mastery in about six months. And obviously there's some time and resources invested in that. But it's nowhere near learning a new career. It's not like learning to be a brain surgeon. But you do have to learn.
