Computer Required For EOD Systematic Trading

Adrian Reid on what hardware you actually need for end-of-day trading systems. More RAM helps with backtesting, but you don't need a supercomputer. A cloud VPS often works better than a home computer since decisions happen after market close.

Basically, the more RAM the better because the back testing is a little bit memory hungry but you don't need a supercomputer. And I certainly, if you want to learn this, you know, let's have a conversation first before you go shout and say, oh, I have to buy a new computer because I want to be a trader. Because if you're going to go all the way down the automation path, a new computer might actually not be the answer. A vps, a virtual private server in the cloud, might be a better answer because I actually don't run my trading day to day on my home computer. It runs on a computer in the cloud and that's better for lots of reasons. I'm cautious to say you need this because I don't want people to feel like they have to run out and buy it. But more memory, if you're going to buy one anyway, focus on ram. That's probably the most important thing, more memory than anything else. But you don't. There's no minimum spec, it's just the more you have, the faster the computer, the quicker your back tests are going to run and the less frustrating it's going to be. Yeah, but remembering we make our decisions after hours, so when we're making our decisions, it's not time critical. Like the market closes, like let's say 4, 4, 5 o' clock in the afternoon. Depending on where you are, depending on what market it is, then it doesn't open until the next morning. You've got hours to make, to do, do your analysis. So it doesn't matter if the computer takes a little while to back test, it's in the upfront, back testing and system development and building confidence where you want it to be a bit quicker.
It.
