This is a YouTube video titled "Master These Skills Before Building Your Own Trading Systems" containing a monologue or talk recorded around June 30, 2025. The speaker discusses the importance of having some coding familiarity and understanding key concepts like expectancy and backtesting pitfalls before developing trading systems. The content is instructional and focused on trading system development skills.
I think you don't need to be an expert in coding, but I think you need to be somewhat familiar with it. So you've kind of messed with some systems before. You kind of know how to recode. Maybe you can code up a couple of things yourself, but you know, you can ask a friend or something for some other bits and pieces that you're trying to put together. So you don't need to be an expert there, but just relatively familiar. I think you need to maybe understand some concepts like expectancy and you know, what type of system is expected to have what sort of metrics, like maybe know a trend system is expected to have a lower percent winners than say a meaner version system. So just kind of understanding some of those dynamics and also having an idea of when a back test is overly optimistic because it's very easy to write something up when you're just starting that maybe has a future leak or some missed assumption and you get an amazing result and you're all excited and happy and telling all your friends, we've all been there, I've been there. And then just to have your, I have your heart crushed because it's, it's not what you thought it actually was.
