In this YouTube video, Adrian Reid demonstrates how he leverages AI—specifically Claude Code—in conjunction with the RealTest backtesting platform to improve a trading system. He backtests his strategy, extracts the five worst trades, captures each as an image, and feeds those images to Claude Code for improvement suggestions. Claude generates five concrete, testable ideas, including adding an index filter to replace a missing regime filter, which Adrian implements, resulting in a noticeably better system. He notes that while AI provides quick, useful insights, it cannot replace deeper analysis and that raw trade lists lack sufficient context, hence the use of image snapshots. Adrian also discusses integrating Claude Code with RealTest to accelerate the development cycle, and he invites viewers to subscribe to his channel for more AI‑enhanced trading content.
So have you ever wondered whether AI can actually help you improve your trading systems? I use RealTest for my backtesting and I had a system that I wanted to improve, but I didn't want to do it manually. So I ran the backtest in RealTest, sorted the trades from worst to best, and I took the worst 5 trades and made an image snapshot of each of those trades and fed them into Claude Code and asked Claude Code for recommendations on how to improve this system by eliminating or filtering out trades like these ones.
Now I want to be honest, it didn't come up with rocket science, but nor did I expect it to. To. But it did analyze them pretty quickly, and it certainly did save me some time, and it gave me 5 testable ideas that were fully coded, which is kind of cool. One of the ideas was just use an index filter, your mug, because you didn't have regime filter in your system. So I did that, and it made it a lot better. It can speed it up. I would definitely do this with Claude in the future. But I would also do it myself as well because I think once you've got some practice at this, you can probably go a bit deeper. I wouldn't give it just the trade list 'cause it's not enough information. Can you brainstorm how to improve a system by just looking at the trade list? Not really. You might get some ideas, but it will be incomplete. So that, that's why I use the images.
I'm doing a huge amount of backtesting and system development with AI right now and integrating Claude code with Realtest and having the two of them work together to run the tests more quickly, shrink my cycle time, and come up with better and better ideas is proving really, really powerful.
