A short spoken segment (YouTube video) by Adrian Reid explaining when and how to stop trading a system. It presents two primary shutdown choices: liquidate (take system to cash) or stop taking new signals and let existing positions run off, with examples comparing switching entry triggers versus complete loss of confidence.

If you're going to turn off a system you kind of got two choices. Go take the system to cash, close everything or stop taking new signals and let it run off. We've talked about this a couple of times in the past. Let's say for example you were trading freight train and you found a new entry trigger which is better. You're going to shut down the old system and start trading the new system but the exit's not different in that situation. You might not go to cash with your existing positions. You might just let them trade out but stop taking new signals with that one and start taking new signals with the other one. But let's say you lost complete confidence in the system because something happened that you didn't expect and it became obvious that you shouldn't trade that system anymore. It might then be rational to say I'm taking it to cash, I'm closing everything today and I'll have cash in my account tomorrow.
