Adrian Reid explains the core idea of systematic trading: trading by absolute, objective, rules-based signals (e.g., "if A and B and C then buy; if D or E then sell"). He emphasizes that rules remove subjectivity and make trades reproducible across users and testable via backtesting, allowing confidence-building in strategies.

When I say systematic is objective rules based trading so if A and B and C are true you buy if D or E is true you sell so these are rules which are absolute and objective if I have the rules and I look at a chart I can see that's a buy and that's a sell if you have the same rules you find exactly the same buy and exactly the same sell it's not subject to discretion subjectivity, interpretation their mathematical calculations so that I've got the same rules you've got the same rules we both get the same trades and by doing that we make our rules testable so we can build confidence in them I'm sure we're going to get into a lot of detail around the backtesting and so on but really that's what it is it's about eliminating all subjectivity absolute rules that tell you when to buy and tell you when to sell Everything is defined by the rules instead of subjective decisions we might make ourselves it.
