10 Best Ways To Stay Overweight And Unhealthy | Weight Loss Plan

In this 20‑minute solo video, fitness coach Eric Roberts humorously frames ten counter‑intuitive "best ways" to remain overweight, out of shape, and unhealthy, using each as a cautionary example of habits that sabotage weight‑loss and fitness goals. He walks through each point—ranging from refusing new routines, over‑relying on fleeting motivation, seeking instant gratification, avoiding willful suffering, neglecting self‑prioritization, fearing failure, waiting for perfect conditions, hopping between programs, breaking personal promises, and lacking impulse control. For each, Roberts explains why the behavior keeps people stuck, contrasts it with the opposite (discipline, delayed gratification, purposeful suffering, etc.), and offers practical mindset shifts to replace the harmful habit. Throughout, he emphasizes that change requires consistent action, disciplined habits, and realistic expectations. The video concludes with a call‑to‑action inviting viewers to join his ERF Clubhouse coaching program for structured workouts, nutrition guidance, and community support, and ends with typical YouTube engagement prompts (like, subscribe, comment).

In this video, you and I are going to be covering the 10 best ways to stay overweight, out of shape, and unhealthy. And you might be thinking, Eric, why the hell would you tell me how to do that and what the best ways are? I'm probably already out of shape and unhealthy, and I'm trying to change that. Our brains are much better at identifying problems than they are finding solutions. But when you can identify the problem, you can then identify the solution to that problem. The first great way to stay overweight, out of shape, and unhealthy is going to be Not being willing to try new things or break your current routine. Let me give you an example. Right now you're not willing to get up earlier than you get up right now to make sure you can consistently get your workout. Or right now you're not willing to spend extra time on the weekends to help meal prep your food for the week ahead so you can stay on track with your nutrition. Or right now you're not willing to take the time, energy, and effort to count your calories, use your food scale, weigh your food out in order to make sure you're within a calorie deficit to lose body fat. If you're not willing to try and do these new things, then you're not going to get a new result. If you want to stay in the exact same place you are, do all the same things you're doing right now. Don't wake up earlier, don't make more time for meal prep, don't weigh and count your calories, don't do all the things that you know you probably should be doing in order to get the results because that's where you will stay exactly where you are. Please just remember, in order to change, you have to change. Very simple. Might seem stupid for me to even say, but just think about it logically for a half second. If you want your body, if you want your lifestyle, if you want your health to change, you can't keep doing the same thing that got you in the body that you're in right now. Because if you do the same thing, you're going to keep the body that you're in right now. So when you're going into your journey, look to do different things because then you are going to get a different result from those different things. Second best way to stay overweight, out of shape, unhealthy is to Rely on motivation more than your discipline because motivation is one fickle fucker. It is going to come and then it's gonna go. It's gonna come, it's gonna go. You, me, anybody who watches this for the rest of eternity will not be motivated to do the things that they're supposed to do every single day. That's kinda going back to even the first point a tad bit. You know, when we talk about getting up earlier, making time for meal prep, counting your calories, You're not going to want to do that stuff every single day, but you have to in order to see progress, which we'll talk about in a quick second. But that motivation is going to come and go. It's going to wax and wane. There's nothing wrong with you for not being motivated every single day. I've done a pretty in-depth video covering all things motivation here on my channel. If you would like to check it out, feel free to go ahead to. But essentially, how do you get motivated? You see progress. That's the most motivating thing ever, right, is actually seeing progress. Cool. How do you see progress? You have to take the actions that are necessary in order for you to see progress. So you have to hit your calories, you have to do your workouts, you have to make sure you go to sleep, you have to make sure you know you drink less alcohol, whatever your thing is. You have to do those things to get the result, which would then be really motivating to you. Which doing those actions require discipline. And let me just give you one quick thing on discipline. I feel like most people look at that word discipline and think like, oh. That's just reserved for people who already have discipline. You're either born with discipline or you're not born with discipline and you can't, you can't get it. You can't develop it. Completely false. In the same way, if you invest into your bank account, what happens? Your bank account grows. If you lift weights in the gym and you push yourself and you invest the time into getting stronger and building muscle, what happens? You build muscle. If you're, if you're training squats, your legs are going to get stronger because you're training that muscle, right? Your bank account grows because you're investing into that bank account. The same thing with discipline. Discipline is a skill. It's a muscle. It's something that you can invest into. You can get better at a skill. You can get better at throwing a football or riding a bike or driving a car or doing any type of skill. You can invest into the bank account, get stronger with muscles. Discipline. You can have it. You can develop it. It's not just this magical fairy tale thing that you just can't seem to grab. It's going to take time. It's going to take effort. It's going to take a lot of hard work, but you can invest into your discipline. Myself, for example, I'm not motivated every single day, but now when I wake up and I don't want to go work out today, actually my back is fucking killing me. I'm spasming all over the place. I can barely walk. I'm like, I have to— I'm glad I'm doing this sitting down. I wish I could like Put in the edits here of when I'm like erasing and then drawing it up again. Ah, ah, ow, ah. But in my head for a half second, I was like, I don't want to go work out today. But that took me a half second to get over. It's because I've invested so much into my discipline that I'm going to be able to just say, eh, fuck off. I'm going to work out anyway. You can be the same way. But if you don't want to invest into your discipline and you only want to rely on your motivation, which Your motivation will probably be there 10%, 20% of the time. The thing is, if you only show up 10% to 20% of the time and do the shit you're supposed to 10% to 20% of the time, that's just not gonna cut it. That's not gonna be good enough for you to see progress. So that would be a great way to stay out of shape for sure. The 3rd best way to stay out of shape, unhealthy, overweight is gonna be instant gratification. You are trying to get everything right Now you're trying to lose 20 pounds in a month. You're expecting these changes, these massive lifestyle habit changes, massive changes to your body to happen overnight, in a week, in a month. You're also looking for food choices, for example, to have instant gratification. Oh my God, you feel so good when you're eating this cookie, or you feel so good when you're eating ice cream, or it feels better in the moment to not take your time, cook a healthy dinner, and just go out to eat instead, or it feels really good in the moment to not go get your workout in and just stay on the couch instead. A great way, like it's one of the best ways honestly to stay out of shape is gonna be having and relying on this instant gratification 24/7. On the flip side, if you are somebody who can actually practice delayed gratification, if even when it might feel better to stay in bed and not go work out, if you can practice delayed gratification, Get your ass up in the morning to go work out. Do your workout. You will feel so much better afterwards, right? I know you know that's true. You feel so much better afterwards. That's delayed gratification. It's not instant in the moment. It's you had to get up, go to the gym, then after your workout you feel better. It's not, I'm too tired to cook dinner, I'll just order out. No. It's pushing through that tiredness, cooking the dinner instead, having the healthy dinner, staying within your calories, and then at the end of the night you feel better physically and mentally because you have put better food into your body. You stayed on track and you stuck to your calories. Delayed gratification. If you want to get in shape, get healthier, lose body fat, delayed gratification is the best way to go about doing that. But if you want to stay out of shape, overweight, all that stuff, please feel free to continue to practice that instant gratification. Because you will surely stay out of shape that way. And then honestly, going right along with point number 3, point number 4, we have the best way— one of the best ways to stay out of shape is to have no willful suffering. Let me explain what I mean here. Think about when you're doing a workout. Is a workout like a walk in the park? Is it like all sunshine and rainbows? Is it super easy? No, it's probably challenging. You're probably in your workouts pushing yourself, making those ugly faces when you push the weight. You know, you're having to get to the gym, carve out time. It's, it's willful suffering. You are willfully putting yourself through suffering to get to the end result that you want, to get in shape, to get healthier, to, you know, have a lower body fat percentage, to be stronger, to have stronger, you know, joints and tendons and ligaments, muscles, all these great things. You're willfully going through the suffering in order to do that. Or for example, You are willfully going to suffer when, you know, maybe you're going out to eat with your friends and it would be a lot easier just to kind of say, fuck it, and have the appetizer and have the entree and have a couple of drinks and not be mindful of the foods you're consuming, the overall calories you're consuming. That would probably be way easier, but you're going to willfully suffer and say, maybe I can have the appetizer, but I'm sticking to one little appetizer plate. I'm going to have the salad for the entree. I'm going to stick to one drink and not go 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 drinks. I'm going to make sure I willfully suffer upfront to be able to reap the reward later on. The people who are in shape practice this willful suffering, and it's not like they're over-restricting themselves or they're like, you know, they're not letting themselves have any fun ever. Like I just said, if you're going— we'll use the example going out to eat. You can have the appetizer, but have a little bit of it. You can have the entree, but make sure it has veggies. You can have a drink, but have a drink, not 4 drinks. It's not like they're, again, over-restricting, but they are practicing this slight willful suffering. The people who aren't in shape are not practicing this willful suffering. It's just an entire free-for-all. It's like they're living their life with no rules, no guidelines. It's almost like if— it's like The Purge, that movie The Purge. You can just do whatever the fuck you want. That— how did that movie end? Well, I guess the movie ended better, but how did the movie— when it was going through? Wasn't very good. It was total fucking chaos, right? Imagine if you sent your kid to school and there was no fucking rules. There was no teachers, there was no guidance. It would be complete chaos, right? That's how most people who are out of shape are living their life with no rules, no guidelines, no nothing. The people who do practice the willful suffering are usually healthier, in better shape, and less body fat to them. So again, if you want to stay overweight and out of shape and that stuff, don't practice this. But if you do, maybe a good idea to practice. The 5th great way to stay out of shape is gonna be not prioritizing you, not prioritizing your goals, not prioritizing the actions that you need to do in order to see the result that you're trying to see. You're not carving out time to go get your workout in. You're brushing your meal prep under the rug when somebody else needs something from you. You're using this excuse of, oh, I'm a people pleaser, And I have other people to take care of. Listen, I understand. I've worked with literally thousands of people by this point who are parents, who are caregivers, who are bosses, CEOs, you name it. I've worked with every single person by this point. All of those people understand that they need to get— all these successful people, let me, let me make sure I say that— all the successful people who have gotten healthy, gotten in shape, changed their body, changed their life, all of them understand That they need to be selfish upfront in order to be selfless in the long run. Think about it for a half second. How can you give to other people the best you possibly can if you're overweight, if you're unhealthy, if you have low self-esteem, if you have low self-confidence? You're not— if you have low energy, you're not going to be able to give to those other people as well as you possibly can Because you aren't taking care of yourself. So one of the best ways to stay out of shape is just quite simply don't prioritize your time for yourself. Don't prioritize your goals. Don't make it a non-negotiable for you to get your workouts in or go getting your walks in or spending some extra time or cooking certain foods or certain dinners so you can help yourself stay on track. Don't prioritize that because again, going back to point number 1, you'll stay the exact same of where you are. But if you want to not only change you, but change the other people around you for the better, you need to get selfish up front in order to be selfless later on. And I talk about this in my podcast as well. If you're into the audio scene, uh, the Eric Roberts Fitness Podcast, you can feel free to check it out. I talk about this in one of the episodes of my podcasts where if you want to positively impact and influence the people around you, you need to set the standard yourself. So if you're a parent and you want your kids to You know, live a healthy life, be strong, be confident, have high self-esteem. What are you doing? Because the only way that's going to happen is if you set the example, if you set the standard. So this right here, again, if you want to be a healthy, in-shape, confident, strong person, cool. Make sure you prioritize your time and prioritize your goals and make it a non-negotiable. If not, like I said, you can stay the out-of-shape one and just kind of like, you know, go along with where you currently maybe are at right now. Number 6, another phenomenal way to stay out of shape exactly where you are right now in the body you're in and the mindset you're in is to be afraid to fail to the point where you don't take action. Because I will say somewhat being afraid to fail I think is actually somewhat of a good thing because it forces you to like have this little extra edge to you. But if you're so afraid to fail, maybe you're somebody who, you know, you've tried dieting in the past and you've tried doing the keto diet or you've tried fasting or you've tried, you know, working out 6, 7 days a week, this, that, and the other, only eating clean. You've tried all these things and you failed. If you're so afraid to fail again that it's causing you to either number one, not take action, or number two, when you do take action, you're already writing yourself off in your own head saying this isn't going to work, I'm not going to stick to this. I can't do this. You're having this really negative self-talk to you. Either one of those 2 things is going to be a phenomenal way to stay out of shape and right where you are. Don't let past mistakes, past failures— I heard this saying one time, I believe it was by Alex Hormozi: don't let the same thing burn you twice. So if you failed in the past, don't let that thing also burn you right now that's causing you to stop you from getting where you want to be. It already burned you in the past. You already failed. Cool. Don't let that thing, don't let that past failure stop you from getting to where you want to be because the only way you're going to get to where you want to be is if you move forward and if you take action, if you invest into yourself, you invest into whatever it is. Time. It's a time investment. It's a money investment, whether it's coaching, whether it's meal prepping, whether it's getting up earlier, whatever the investment is, you have to make that investment to get to where you want to be. Don't let those past things stop you from getting there, or you can let it stop you and you can stay right where you're at. The 7th best way, and this might be honestly my favorite way to stay out of shape and unhealthy— it probably is my favorite— it is to wait until it's perfect. You're gonna wait until you get back from— you're gonna wait until the summer starts or the summer ends. You're gonna wait until You know, your kids are out of school or you turn a certain age or my favorite, favorite out of all favorites, you're going to wait until Monday to start up again. You're going to wait until whatever insert perfect time is because here's the reality. It is never going to be perfect. Never. It is never going to be perfect. There will never be a perfect time. And if you're somebody who has to have perfect conditions in order to get in shape, get healthy, lose weight, You'll never do any of those 3 things because it'll never be perfect. You don't have— you will not have what it takes if mentally you think you need to wait till it's perfect timing in order to get your results and get healthier and lose weight, because there's always going to be something that pops up. And even better, even if nothing pops up, we are really good as humans in our own head of making up scenarios as to why we need to wait or as to why we can't stay on track. It could be as simple as like, oh my God, the weekend's coming so I can't stay on track. The fuck is the difference between a Saturday and a Tuesday? They're just a day out of the week, right? Oh my God, my kid's getting married in 4 years. It's like, what the fuck? Like, okay, like, all right. Or, you know, I'll wait until I retire. I'll wait until I, you know, my kids get into school. You can always wait for something, and you know that too. It's pretty hard to hear, and it might sound— I might sound like an asshole right now, but I'm just giving you the real truth. Like, you got to stop. If you want to get healthy, get in shape, lose weight, get stronger, do all these great things. You got to stop waiting for the perfect time because there will never be one. So if there's never a perfect time, how are you ever going to get in shape? You won't because there will— it'll, it'll never happen for you. Stop waiting for perfect conditions. Just go take action now. The 8th best way to stay overweight, out of shape, and unhealthy is going to be something I call program hopping. And what program hopping is, is essentially just You're trying this one program for maybe 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and you're like, ah, this isn't working. You go to something else. You try this new thing for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and then you go to something else. This isn't working. This isn't working fast enough. I'm not seeing progress. This, that, and the other. You go to something else. You just keep trying these new and shiny things. And then 6 months has gone by. You've tried 6 different fucking things and none of them have worked. Oh, none of them have worked because you haven't stuck with one for long enough. This is why, for example, in my Clubhouse, which is more or less just my coaching program that I run where we get new workouts every single week, we have nutritional guidelines, all of that fun stuff. You can check out more in the link below in the description. It's just erfclubhouse.com. But I don't let people sign up for a monthly subscription. The reason is I do at least a 3-month subscription. Why is that? I don't want you to commit for a month and then go on to something else. For you to actually change, I know it takes at least 90 days. That's it. At least 90 days for you to start to make a change. I could make a shit ton more money if I did a monthly subscription because like more people would sign up. I would get way more money because that's just how things go. You sign up for things that are like less commitment. I don't want your money. I want you to actually create a fucking change in your life. And I don't want you to just program hop from one thing to one thing to one thing. I need you to commit more. I need you to stick with something unless you want to stay where you are. And now, because that's why I said if you want to stay out of shape, you just keep program hopping, buddy. You keep trying new thing after new thing. You keep saying, oh, this isn't happening quick enough, or this isn't for me, or this, that, and the other. The reason you are where you are is you're trying to fit everything around what you want. It's going back to the first point. You're not willing to try new things. You're not willing to get uncomfortable. You're not willing to willfully suffer. All of those things are required in order for you to make a change. And so if you want to make this change, stop program hopping. Pick something, follow it, commit to it, stick with it, trust the process, keep the faith, and you will get to your goal, I promise. Or if you want to stay where you are, just keep hopping around like the fucking Easter Bunny, man. All right, the 9th best way to stay out of shape is going to be one of my favorites as well: break promises to yourself. A phenomenal way, a really, really good way, honestly, to stay unhealthy and overweight and out of shape is if you keep breaking promises to yourself. If you tell yourself you're gonna stick to your diet on this Friday night, but then when you go, you say, fuck it. You promise yourself you're gonna wake up early for this entire week and go work out, but then you break that promise to yourself. You promise yourself at this time that you're gonna fully commit through the highs and lows and the betweens. You're not gonna wait until a certain day. You're not gonna wait till it's perfect, but then you wait until it's perfect. If you continuously break these promises to yourself, that is, again, one of the best ways in order to stay exactly where you are, in order to stay out of shape, not get in shape, stay out of shape and continue this cycle that you're probably in right now where you're probably not loving it. This is probably why you're still watching this video right now. If you're still watching this video, thank you, I appreciate it. I hope it's helping you. But you're probably still watching this video because you're unhappy, you're not happy with the cycle you're So you gotta stop breaking promises to yourself. One little piece I'll add here is when you make promises, make them realistic. Don't promise yourself you're gonna work out for 2 hours if you fucking know you can't work out for 2 hours. Don't promise yourself you're gonna be 100% perfect for, you know, the entire year if you know that's not fucking realistic. Don't promise yourself things that you know you can't go through with. Can you challenge yourself a tad bit to step it up? Sure. But make them realistic because the more you break promises to yourself— imagine if one of your best friends or your spouse or your family member kept breaking promises. What would you say to them? You'd probably tell them to fuck off. You wouldn't trust them. You would think they're a piece of shit, right? Like, that's just how it is. You're doing that with yourself. So stop making promises that you know you can't keep. That is a great way to get— and the last way to stay out of shape is— this is the best way, like by far the best way. This is by far the best way to stay out of shape: not having impulse control. You're when you automatically think, oh my God, I want to sleep in. You sleep in. Oh my God, this is too hard, so you quit. Oh my God, I'm too tired, so you don't cook food. That impulse control. Oh my God, I just I just really want that cookie, so you have all the cookies. Oh my God, I've had a really long day. I'm just going to eat everything. That impulse control. If you don't learn how to control those impulses, then you won't ever be able to get in shape. The people who are in shape are the people who even when they're tired and they don't want to work out, they make themselves work out anyway. When they're tired from a long day of work, they make sure they still stick to their calories because they know those are the times. Anybody can do good when things are going all good. Anybody can do that, but it's those times when those impulses Pop up and you say, oh my God, I just want this, I just want that, I just want this. If you can control yourself during those times, learn— and again, that's a skill, not going to happen overnight— but you can get better at your impulse control. If you can get better at controlling those emotions, controlling those impulses, those like in the moment, very much they're almost just like they're mindless. You're just like, this is what I want right now, oh my God. It's like if you let yourself continue To let, you know, let those impulses control you, a great way to stay where you're at. But if you can learn how to truly practice the skill of controlling— that kind of somewhat goes along with the discipline skill that we talked about— but if you can learn how to control those impulses, I promise you, man, you, my friend, are going to lose weight, get healthy, and get in shape. And that, my friends, was the 10 best ways in order to stay overweight, unhealthy, and out of shape. So hopefully you learned something from this video. And then one last time, if you want some extra help with getting yourself in shape, with losing weight, getting stronger, building muscle, if you want an exact program to follow with exact workouts, how many sets, how many reps, how many calories to eat, how much protein should you have, also coming along with an entire supportive community inside of there with myself and my other coaches and all of the members inside of the group. We'd love to have you inside of the Clubhouse. Just head to erfclubhouse.com. Feel free to check it out. Other than that, thank you so much for watching. If you enjoyed the video, give it a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment. Let me know which one was your— which 10 of those was your favorite one, or the one that resonated with you the most. Look forward to reading them.
