The BMI chart calls the speaker obese, but he argues it's useless for people with muscle. BMI can't tell fat from muscle, so he tracks body fat percentage, strength gains, and waist circumference instead. Better markers: energy, sleep, and blood work.

According to the BMI chart, I am obese as well. So does that mean the BMI chart is bullshit? If you're someone who doesn't lift weights, you live a sedentary lifestyle, and you have a high BMI, you should pay more attention to the BMI scale. But if you're someone who lifts weights has visible muscle and you used to be obese but lost a lot of weight, you should pay less attention to the BMI scale because the healthier you get, the dumber the BMI becomes because it can't tell fat versus muscle. And instead, track this: your total body fat percentage, if your strength in workouts is increasing, if your waist is getting smaller, if you're eating more protein, and if your energy, sleep, and blood work are improving. The BMI is a starting point, not a finish line. And if you want calorie and protein targets to match your body, click this link in my bio.
