In this video, fitness coach Eric Roberts dismantles common misconceptions that keep people stuck with stubborn belly fat. He begins by debunking the myth of spot reduction, explaining that fat loss occurs uniformly across the body and that abdominal fat is often the last to disappear due to genetics. He then challenges the belief that eating "clean" foods automatically leads to fat loss, emphasizing that calories matter regardless of food quality and urging viewers to track their intake for at least a week using a free calorie calculator he provides. Roberts warns that relying solely on cardio can cause muscle loss, which in turn lowers resting metabolism, and advocates for strength training as a daily metabolic subscription that burns more calories at rest. He stresses that while you can change the size of your abs by losing fat and building muscle, the shape and number of visible packs are genetically predetermined, so chasing an Instagram‑perfect look is futile. Finally, he offers a concrete action plan: track calories for seven days, perform 3–4 strength‑training sessions per week (30–60 minutes each), and follow his personal meal plan (linked in the video) to transition from 22% to 8% body fat without starvation. The overall message is that honest, math‑based nutrition and consistent strength work, rather than trendy diets or endless crunches, are the only reliable routes to a lean, defined midsection.

Most fitness gurus are lying to you about why this stubborn belly fat sticks around. I went from 22% to 8% body fat, but only after I stopped doing endless crunches and ignored the standard diet advice. So here's the brutally honest truth about what actually removes that stubborn lower belly fat. First, we have to kill the biggest myth in fitness: spot reduction. You cannot burn belly fat by doing ab workouts. Think of your body fat like water in a swimming pool. Your belly is on the deep end. If you take a bucket of water out of the deep end, the water level in the pool doesn't just drop in that one spot. The water level lowers across the entire pool, and your genetics are the shape of that pool. And for most people, your belly is the deep end. It's the last place the water drains from. So you can't pick where you lose fat from first, but you can force the entire water level down over time. And as long as you're following the right nutrition plan and workout plan, which we'll talk about in a second, even the deep end of the pool has to empty out at some point. Now, if you feel like you've been waiting forever for that deep end to drain out the water and it's just not happening, it's not because your metabolism is broken. It's because of truth number 2. The most brutally honest thing I can tell you is this: you can eat the cleanest diet in the world and still not lose an ounce of belly fat. Just because a food is healthy or clean doesn't mean that it has free calories. Let's take olive oil for example. It's healthy and a superfood, right? But one serving of this has the same calories as 4 Oreos. Or let's take almonds. Again, a very healthy food, but one handful has the same amount of calories as this much chocolate. And so you might not be cheating on your diet, you just might be unknowingly overeating on healthy foods. The only language your belly fat understands is math. To lose that stubborn belly fat, you don't just need to eat better, you need to eat less calories. Track your calorie intake just for 7 days straight. You'll be shocked at how many calories you're actually consuming. And if you need to know how many calories you should be eating to lose fat, I have a free calorie calculator in the description below of this video. Now here's the thing. If you nail your diet, you'll lose weight. But if you ignore truth number 3, you won't look ripped or toned. You'll just look like a smaller, softer, skinnier fat version of your current self. The mistake people make with their workouts when they're trying to lose their belly fat is Running off their belly fat or trying to do a bunch of cardio. Most people treat exercise like a punishment to try to burn off the food they eat, but excessive cardio, especially without lifting weights, sends a signal to your body to lose all weight, not just fat, which means you'll typically lose muscle instead of losing belly fat. Think of your metabolism like money. Doing cardio is a one-time purchase. You spend Spend the cash while you're shopping, and then you're done. Whereas lifting weights and building muscle, this is like an expensive daily recurring subscription. It's a recurring bill your body must pay every single day so that even when you're at rest doing nothing, your body is spending more money, aka burning more calories. So stop just spending your cash one time. And start increasing your daily subscription by prioritizing strength training and building more muscle. And you don't need much. 3 to 4 days a week of 30 to 60 minutes is more than enough to build muscle, burn more calories, and finally give you that toned, lean, ripped, defined look you're going for. But here's the thing. Even if you drain the water in your pool, and even if you nail your nutrition and start lifting weights and building muscle, there's One final hard pill you have to swallow. If you're expecting to look like your favorite Instagram influencer, then you might be chasing a ghost. Because here's the truth: you can't train the shape of your abs. You can only train the size. And everybody has abs. Yes, even if you're 50 pounds overweight right now and you can't feel or see them. But whether you have a 4-pack of abs, a 2-pack of abs, a 6-pack, an 8-pack, That was decided before you were born because your genetics determine how your abs look. Think of your abs like a window on a house. You can clean the glass— that's losing the fat— and you can open the curtains— that's building the muscle— but you can't change where the architect placed the window frames. That's your genetics. So stop obsessing over how your abs look or whether you have a 4-pack or a 6-pack. Your goal isn't to look like someone else. It's to reveal the best version of your blueprint. If you're lean enough to see your abs, no matter the shape, you have already won. Now you understand the science, but how do you put this into practice? Well, if you want to see the exact meal plan I use to get from 22% to 8% body fat without starving, click this video right here.
