In this short instructional clip, fitness coach Eric Roberts points out a common error people make when performing the dumbbell shoulder press: keeping the elbows flared wide. He demonstrates that by tucking the elbows in to about a 45‑degree angle, most lifters can press the dumbbells lower while placing far less stress on the shoulder joint. Roberts explains that a narrower elbow position keeps the shoulder joint in a more open configuration, reducing compression and pain, and ultimately leads to a safer, more effective press.
