Eric Roberts shows the barbell rack chin, a seated pull-up variation that builds back strength. Set the bar at arm's length while seated, keep your hips back, and pull upward. One leg can stay on the ground if you need extra support.

Here is one of my favorite back exercises of all time. It's called the barbell rack chin, and here's how you do it. Set up the barbell or the Smith machine so that when you're sitting down, the bar is at an arm's length away. You're then going to place a platform in front of you where your knees are slightly bent. Your legs are not fully locked out. Then from here, you are going to try to pull yourself up to the bar without raising your hips to get yourself up. You're going to try to leave your hips behind you just like you would a pull-up or a chin-up. And just be warned, this is not an easy exercise by any means. And so if you have to put one leg on the ground to give yourself a bit more support, you can absolutely do that.
