Eric Roberts shows how heel elevation with a squat wedge or weight plates improves ankle dorsiflexion so you can sit deeper in a squat. It's a quick fix that works immediately, though some trainers prefer mobility work instead.

If you just can't seem to get low enough when you are doing your squats, try what I'm doing right here, which is simply just elevating my heels. Now you could use something like a squat wedge like you see me using right here, or you could even use like 5-pound plates that you see inside of the gym. When your heels are slightly more elevated, you can get something called ankle dorsiflexion, which can allow you to get lower in your squats. And then some people are going to tell you, oh, you shouldn't use that, you should work on your ankle mobility. Sure, cool, work on your ankle mobility. But in the meantime, if you're looking for a simple, easy, and effective way to add depth to your squats, try elevating your heels. And I hope it helped.
