Give Me 14 Min And I'll Fix Your Motivation Forever

In this 14‑minute motivational coaching video, Eric Roberts shares the exact framework that has kept him and over 25,000 fat‑loss clients consistent for eight years. He argues that motivation is not a prerequisite for action; instead, action creates motivation. Roberts outlines four inter‑locking principles: 1. Momentum over Motivation – Take any small action first; the resulting progress fuels motivation. He illustrates this with client Tamara, who finally signed up after a tiny step and saw immediate results. 2. Discipline as a Floor, Not a Ceiling – Build non‑negotiable daily “floor” habits (e.g., a 15‑minute walk, two workouts per week, hitting calorie targets) that are sustainable even on bad days. Client Pete’s shift from an unsustainable “all‑or‑nothing” regimen to simple floor habits led to steady weight loss. 3. Vision over Excuses – Craft a vivid future‑self vision that outweighs short‑term excuses. Nicole’s written one‑year vision kept her motivated through life’s disruptions and resulted in an 80‑plus‑pound loss. 4. Motivation is a Match, Not a Furnace – Motivation is fleeting like a match; you must repeatedly relight it through action, discipline, and vision until it becomes a steady “furnace” of habit. Evan’s experience moving from sporadic motivation to a sustainable lifestyle exemplifies this. Roberts ends with concrete challenges: define 1‑3 daily non‑negotiables, write a future‑self vision, and treat motivation as a relightable match. He also promotes a free 25‑day fat‑loss program and his paid one‑on‑one coaching. The video blends theory, anecdotal evidence, and actionable steps to teach viewers how to generate lasting motivation on demand.

Give me the next couple of minutes and I'm going to teach you how to stay motivated no matter what. This is the one thing that has kept me consistent for years, even when I didn't feel like showing up, because motivation doesn't have to be something you either wake up with that day or not. It's something you can build on demand that you can have every day so you never fall off track again. And in this video, I'm going to show you exactly how I've done that for myself and over 25,000 fat loss clients I've worked with over the past 8 years. Point number 1, momentum over motivation. The first key to staying motivated is this: momentum is greater than motivation. Most people get this completely backwards. They think it goes like this: I'll get motivated, I'll take some action, and then I will see results from those actions. But in reality, it works the opposite way. You first Have to take action. Because when you take action, you will see some results. You'll feel better, you'll start looking better in the mirror, and then you will get motivated because of the results you've seen to keep taking action. That's how you create motivation on demand. No more waiting for it to come back around. You take a step, even a small one— That's what she said. That builds confidence, Makes you feel better and motivates you to keep going. And to be clear, when I say see progress, I don't mean you're gonna lose 10 pounds in a day or in a week you're gonna lose all the 50 pounds that you want. But what I do mean is when you get up to go take a walk, you're gonna have a little bit more energy. When you cook a healthy dinner instead of ordering out, you're gonna feel less bloated, you're gonna feel more energy, you're gonna feel the win of you staying on track with your diet. Those little feelings will motivate you to keep taking those actions. I saw this play out with one of our clients, Tamara. She told me she kept waiting to feel ready to sign up for our coaching, and every week she'd watch my videos, she would think about it, but she would never take any action. And eventually she just said, screw it, I'm gonna finally sign up. And within 2 weeks, her scale was down a couple of pounds, her clothes were fitting looser, and she was motivated to keep going. And that's the power of momentum. Sometimes you do just have to force yourself to take action, even if it's a small action, to make you start going in the right direction. Because remember this, an object in motion stays in motion. An object at rest stays at rest until acted upon by an external force. So you're going to stay exactly where you're at until you take an action to move it. So that's what I want you to do. Stop waiting to feel like it. Instead, just focus on the smallest step forward you can take right now. And by the way, if you want a very easy step forward you can take, I have a free 25-day fat loss program that can help you kickstart your progress. There'll be a link in the description below for that program. So now you know motivation doesn't come first, action comes first. But what about the days where momentum feels impossible? The days where you're stressed, tired, or just quite frankly don't care? Well, that's where the second point comes into play. Point number 2, how to practice discipline. Discipline is greater than feelings. But here's what most people get wrong about discipline. They think discipline means walking 10,000 steps per day no matter what, or only eating clean and healthy foods. No sugar, no carbs, no cheat meals. But discipline isn't about doing the most and being perfect and white-knuckling your way through 7 days a week. Because I don't care what anybody tells you, nobody can stick with that for a long period of time. There's going to be some people in the comment section, probably named Jake or Michelle or Paul, who are like, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I am on carnivore and I've done it for 30 days straight. Awesome, Jake, Michelle, or Paul. Let me know where you're at in 3 years. Real discipline is setting a floor instead of a ceiling. It's about creating non-negotiables you can stick to Even on your worst days. And you do this so you can keep momentum moving forward. For example, we have a client named Pete, and at first he thought he had to go to the gym 6, 7 days a week, eat nothing but chicken and broccoli, do hours of cardio. And he thought he had to be disciplined with all of that. And he would do it for a little bit because he was practicing discipline. But eventually, like everybody else, he would fizzle out, get burnt out, and not stick with it. for the long run. So when he started working with us, we changed his approach. His floor was simple: go for at least one 15-minute walk per day, hit at least 2 workouts per week, and just hit his calorie target, even if it meant eating junk food or not eating perfectly. And guess what? The consistency built momentum. He lost 20 pounds in 8 weeks. He gained muscle and strength, and he's more consistent now than he's ever been before. That's what discipline really looks like. It's not about doing everything perfectly, the most hardcore. It's about practicing your non-negotiables, even the small things, no matter what. And over time, that discipline feeds into the momentum that we talked about earlier. If you know no matter what you're getting your 15-minute walk, You're going to hit your calorie target for that day. You're getting at least 2 workouts per week. You're consistently taking action. So if you're consistently taking action, you're consistently seeing results. If you're consistently seeing results, you will be able to create motivation and momentum for yourself to keep moving yourself forward. So here's my challenge for you. Decide right now, what are your 1 to 3 non-negotiables that you have to hit every day, no matter what, that you know You can hit every day. Remember, I talked about the floor and the ceiling. Most people are trying to reach for the ceiling, and that's the highest thing you're shooting for. If you hit that, that's awesome. But I want you to think about instead, what are these non-negotiables that you almost think, of course I can do this every single day? That's almost too easy, Eric. If it's too easy, that's what I want you to set as your non-negotiables, because even on your worst days— you will stick with it and maintain consistency. So now we've got momentum, we've got discipline. There's still one more piece that people miss, because even with good habits and consistency, some days you're still going to feel like giving up. And that's when you need this next key. Point number 3, vision over excuses. The 3rd key to staying motivated is this: your vision has to be greater than your excuses. Here's a truth: the reason most people quit is not because it's too hard; it's because they lose sight of why they started and why they're doing this in the first place. Life hits you with different emotions and challenges and struggles, and within these day-to-day challenges and struggles, you lose sight of your bigger vision. When you can move everything out of the way and you have a clear vision of what you want to become, how you want to feel, what you want to accomplish, how you want to look, excuses and these other life challenges don't hit you as hard because you see the bigger vision and that pushes you to keep moving forward. I'll never forget one of our clients, Nicole. When she first signed up, she told me she restarted her weight loss journey dozens of times over the years before getting started with us. And every time she would do great for a week or 2 weeks or maybe a month if she was lucky. But then she would get busy with work, or her kids would have something pop up that threw her off track, or she just didn't really feel like it anymore, and so she quit. So when she signed up for coaching, we did something a little bit different, and I asked her, think about future Nicole one year from now. Who do you want that version of Nicole to be? Not just a number on the scale, but think about what do you want your life to look like? What energy levels do you want to have? How do you want to feel? Feel in your clothes? What do you want your self-confidence to feel like? How do you want to interact with your partner, your coworkers, your kids? And she wrote it all down. And so when she would do her weekly check-ins and maybe she wasn't feeling motivated, or when she would email me that she was having a bad day and she felt like quitting, we would bring back up these words that she wrote down about where she wanted to be one year from now. And what would happen was she would look at what she wrote down It would automatically put her back in the headspace of wanting to continue going, of wanting to live that life. And we talked about making decisions that would make future Nicole proud. The 1-year version of you from right now, the decisions you make today, would that person be proud of it? What would that person want you to do? What would that person do to get to that person. And this mindset hack, this mindset reframe forces you to think long-term. And so it changes your decision-making now, which will get you to where you wanna be long-term. And Nicole ended up losing 80+ pounds with our coaching. And in fact, she is an employee of mine to this day. That's the power of vision. You need something bigger than just a number on the scale. You need something that pulls you forward Even when everything else is trying to pull you back and keep you stuck where you are. So here's what I want you to do after this video. I want you to write down where do you want to be in a year? What does future you in a year look like? And then once you write that down, pull it back up, put it on your phone, put it on your calendar, on your fridge, in the mirror in your bathroom, and force yourself to remember and remind yourself why you're doing this. Because when you have that vision, it will be bigger than your excuses. And if you want to do something today to show up for your future self, click the link in the description below to download my free 25-day fat loss program. So now we've got momentum, we've got discipline, we've got your North Star. Even with all of that, there's one more thing you need to understand, because if you don't, you'll keep thinking there's something wrong with you, you'll get discouraged, and it will force you to end up quitting. Point number 4, motivation is a match, not a furnace. The 4th key to staying motivated is this. Motivation is like a match. The thing nobody tells you is nobody stays motivated every single day. If you light a match, it burns really quickly and then it's gone. That's how motivation works for most people, myself included, all of the clients that I've coached over the years, And you too. And yet so many people beat themselves up or think there's something wrong with themselves when they lose motivation. There's nothing wrong with you. In fact, that's normal. That's how it works. One of our clients, Evan, really struggled with this. He used to come into every Monday fired up, ready to crush it, super motivated. But then by Thursday or Friday, he'd feel completely unmotivated and not want to keep going. He thought he was broken or that he just didn't want it bad enough or that he had bad discipline. But once we explained to him it wasn't his job to stay motivated and keep that 10-second match flame going, it was his job to keep resparking that 10-second match flame and to keep taking action and to practice the discipline and the vision we talked about earlier. Everything changed for Evan. We set up habits and reminders and daily actions that allowed him to spark that flame. And over time, he was able to build up enough momentum from sparking that flame day after day after day that eventually these match flames turned into a furnace. It turned into something that is now a part of his lifestyle, and he doesn't need to re-spark that match over and over and over because it's just a steady burning furnace. At this point, and that's the point: motivation fades for everybody, but you can always relight it. And eventually, if you relight it enough and you stick with it enough and you build enough momentum, you won't need to keep relighting it over and over. Eventually, it'll just turn into a steady burn that keeps you going and changes your habits forever. So stop expecting to feel fired up every single day. Just strike the match, take the actions, build the momentum, and you too will create a long-lasting change in your lifestyle. Staying motivated isn't some magic feeling that never goes away. It's something that you build and you can build it upon demand whenever you want. First, you create momentum because momentum follows action. Second, you practice discipline by sticking to your daily non-negotiables. Third, you stay connected to your vision, which will outweigh your excuses. And finally, you accept you're not going to be motivated every single day, and that's okay. That's how you keep going, and that's how you become the person you want to be. And if you're ready to finally do this and stop spinning your wheels trying on your own, I mentioned our clients throughout this video.
