In a brief YouTube dialogue, Jillian argues that the term "obesity" is outdated because it relies on the Body Mass Index (BMI), a metric originally derived from data on white men, and suggests newer measures like waist‑to‑hip ratio, body‑fat percentage, and DEXA scans. Eric Roberts acknowledges BMI’s limitations—especially for muscular or active individuals—and endorses those alternative metrics, but counters that excess body fat remains a genuine health risk, increasing the likelihood of diabetes, disease, and mortality. He stresses personal accountability for weight loss, rejecting external blame, and promotes his daily, no‑nonsense fat‑loss content on the platform.

Repeat the claim again. First of all, obesity is a very outdated term. It's based on the BMI, which is based on white men. Actually, in this— come on, Jillian, you could be single-handedly responsible for updating the BMI. Okay, but we also have waist-to-hip, and we have DEXA, and we have—
Here's my take. 2 things can be true at once. The BMI can be outdated, especially for individuals who exercise. It doesn't take into consideration muscle mass, cardio health, overall strength, or diet habits. So there are better things you could use, like body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio, DEXA scan. But that doesn't mean obesity still isn't very real, because whether you're obese on the BMI scale or 50% body fat, whatever you call it, you've got problems. And no amount of mental gymnastics one does, carrying 50 to 100 extra pounds of body fat leads to a greater risk of diabetes, disease, and all-cause mortality. And once we accept that, no matter the reasons or causes behind it, we take accountability and control to fix it, as opposed to letting something else be the reason that we can't get in shape. Which is why I believe in accountability, It's our fault because if it's in our control, then we can fix it. But we can't lie to ourselves and blame other people or other things. And if you liked my take, I post on this app daily to make fat loss stupidly simple in a no BS way. So feel free to follow for more.
