Eric Roberts teaches single-leg deadlifts using a tennis ball cue: imagine one between your knee and heel, moving up toward the ceiling as your heel lifts. This keeps your alignment tight and your hip hinge deep.

I want you to think about if there was a tennis ball. So when that back leg goes up, I want you to think about there's a tennis ball in between your knee and your heel is going to the ceiling. So you're going down, right back up. On the off leg that is going up, there's a tennis ball and the heel is going up to the ceiling. Heels— there you go! That's perfect. Perfect. Yep. You can stop a little bit sooner on the way down, but that form is really good.
