The Hard Truth About Your Fitness Goals I Walk & Talk With E 006

In this 10‑minute walk‑and‑talk, Eric Roberts delivers a direct, no‑excuses motivational talk about personal fitness. He argues that achieving health goals is solely the individual’s responsibility; no spouse, friend, or child should be expected to manage meals, calories, or workouts. Roberts stresses that believing you have control over outcomes is essential—without that belief, effort wanes. He uses analogies (lottery odds, bridge‑jumping) to illustrate how perceived control drives action. The core advice centers on proactive planning: counting calories, meal‑prepping, scheduling workouts, and “attacking” the day rather than reacting to it. He acknowledges that this requires extra sacrifice—more time, discipline, and effort—but frames it as the only path to results. Throughout, he reinforces ownership, urging viewers to become the hero of their own transformation, promising better outcomes once they fully accept responsibility and consistently execute the plan.

What is going on, guys? Welcome back to another Walk and Talk with E. Hope you're doing super well. So in this video, I'm gonna be having a chat with you. You and I are gonna have a pretty good chat in this little 10-minute, however many, however many minute walk this comes out to. This chat is gonna be about you and your fitness goals, and this chat is gonna be centered around this is nobody else's goal but yours. Like some people might, I don't know if I wanna say not like me after this video, but they might be a little bit upset because this journey that you're on, oftentimes, listen, it can be incredibly difficult. Me and you both know that. It's very hard sometimes. But listen, it's not your spouse's responsibility to make sure that you have your meal prep at night for dinner. It's not your friend's responsibility to make sure that when you go out to eat, they're babysitting you, making sure you only eat X amount of calories or only stick to X drink. It's not your kid's job to know that you are not confident in your body and you might be overweight and you're not feeling very well. Like, that's not their job. This is nobody else's responsibility but yourself. And as hard as that may be to accept sometimes, 'cause listen, it's not easy to sit here and accept full responsibility for our actions. That's, I think, one of the biggest things missing in America and the world right now. But that being said, when you can actually accept responsibility and take responsibility for your actions and realize that these goals that you have are just that, they're your goals, right? Right? When you accept the responsibility of that, it's in your control now, as opposed to being out of your control. As opposed to, well, my friends, when I go out to eat, my friends don't eat healthy, so I don't eat healthy. Well, okay, well, like, again, the old adage, if your friends jump off a bridge, you fucking jumping off a bridge too? Well, my husband doesn't need to lose weight and he eats a certain way, or my wife is just naturally skinny. Okay, like, and? Like, I don't— you know, you're putting the onus out of your control. Like, you're making it seem like it's out of your control. And when it's out of your control, you don't believe that you are going to be able to succeed, right? It's like if I told you, hey, you know, here's a lottery ticket. Give me 10 grand. And if you get this lottery ticket, you are going to have a 99% chance of winning $500 million. I'm pretty sure you're giving my ass 10 grand, you're gonna take the lottery ticket, and you're probably gonna win. So you know that it's in your control, and you're going to do it and you're going to see and you're going to see results from it. Whereas if I told you, hey, here's the lottery ticket, Give me twenty grand. You have like a sixteen percent chance of winning the lottery. You're probably gonna tell me to go fuck myself, right? Because you don't believe with that percentage. You don't believe that you are going to to to succeed, right? So you're not gonna do it. It's the same thing here. If you don't believe that you are going to succeed, and you can you and it's not in your control, you're not gonna put. Forth the best effort you possibly can to make it happen. Like, you're not gonna go that extra, you know, 2, 4, 8, 10 miles, whatever the old saying is. You're not going to go the extra mile because you don't even believe it's in your control. You're like, well, all this stuff, all this extra stuff is really what is, you know, holding me back. So I can't win anyway. So why even try? You have to start taking things Out of everyone or everyone else's control. And one of the biggest things that I've seen with the most successful clients of mine is that when they get to a place and I drill into their heads nonstop, and even like people who are— and if honestly, if you've messaged me on like Instagram or TikTok or wherever, and you've like— people always thank me for like helping them. And I'm like, I didn't do anything because like you're the one who did all the work. You're the one who counted the calories, did the workouts, so on and so forth, right? So I always tell people, I'm like, it's you that you should be thanking because you are capable of doing anything you want to. And it's the same thing here. When you realize that— what is that, butterfly? I should have punched it. When you realize that you are in full control and you can do anything you want to, Shit gets a lot more simple, and you feel like us as humans, we like to feel in control. I don't know one person who likes feeling out of control. Like, I can't think of a situation. Like, I don't know one person who likes being not in control. Us as humans like being in control. So if you know that you are in control of this journey and you're not putting it on your spouse, Or your kids or your friend or whoever else, well, guess what? You're now going to take the extra— you're going to put forth the extra quote-unquote sacrifice that it's going to take in order for you to see results. Because it is going to take some extra sacrifice. It is going to take some extra work. It is going to take you, you know, not, you know, going out to dinner and not eating everything and anything you want to. It is going to take you Taking some extra time to, you know, think about what dinner is gonna look like this week. It is gonna take you taking some extra time to wake up in the morning and make sure you get your workout in. Like, yeah, it's gonna take extra time, but that's— that extra stuff, like, that extra thing right there, that's what breeds results. Because if you keep doing the same thing you're doing right now, you're not gonna change. Like, because you're doing the same shit. And somebody smarter than me once said, if you keep doing the same shit— he probably didn't cuss, but— if you keep doing the same shit and expect a different result, it's insanity. 'Cause it's not gonna happen. You need to have a different process, right? So you gotta start attacking. I love that word attack. You have to start attacking your goals. And I say attack because there's a big difference, like, For example, I had a conversation with one of my clients earlier yesterday about, um, she wanted to start meal planning her day, right? She's like, I need to know like what my day is gonna look like. And I'm like, that's a fucking phenomenal idea. Because when you have a plan for the day, it could be something as simple as like just, again, just, I don't know, planning out what time you're gonna eat or planning out what you're gonna eat or doing any of these things. When you have a plan for the day, You are now attacking. You're being proactive versus reactive. You're no longer like letting, letting things happen to you, right? During the day, you should be attacking that day. You shouldn't be having the day go by where things just completely happen to you and you're like, oh, woe is me, I guess I'll just let it happen to me. No, like, you gotta fucking go attack it. You have to you have to have a plan for that day in order to make sure that you can succeed the best you possibly can. Because if not, the day is gonna make sure the day is gonna fuck you. Like there's no other way. And you probably know that. You're like, yeah, I can fucking tell. Like when I don't plan, I get home and I'm super hungry and my kids are hungry and I don't know what to eat for dinner. So I just grab fast food and then I'm starving. So I overeat. And it's like that continuous cycle of like not attacking the day. You got to attack your goals. You have to choose. chase. Like, it's, it's so corny and cliché, whatever, but like, you have to attack and chase your goals. Because if you don't, it's not just gonna come to you magically. Like, you gotta get up and fight for it. You have to be the one who, you know, makes it a top priority. In the same way you wanna breathe, you gotta breathe to live. Gotta fucking count your calories. You gotta fucking plan your meals. Gotta fucking work out. Like, you, you have to And obviously it's a bit extreme because like, you know, breathing is literally living, but like you get my point. You have to make it a priority because if you don't, everything, like it's just gonna go by the wayside like it's probably been doing these past 2 months, 6 months, 12 months. Like the amount of people who say they want to make a change, right, but have been thinking that and saying that for an extended period of time. And just like never really put it all together. You got to go attack. You got to take responsibility. You have to own the responsibility. You have to make sure that you are doing what you can on your end to make sure that your goals— once more time, your goals, not your spouse's goal, not your kids' goal, your friends' goal. Like, if you don't feel confident in your body, that's a situation on you. If you don't like the way you look, that's a situation on you. If you don't feel confident and you can't put on a dress or your suit and it doesn't fit, you know, you don't feel confident going to the beach, like, no one's coming to save you, man. I'm gonna get run over by this car. No one's coming to save you. Like, there's no knight in shining armor Coming to like magically, you know, pick you up off your fucking feet and like say, oh, this is— pat you on the head like, this is gonna be all good, don't worry, I'm gonna fix this for you. No, it's you. You're that person. You got to be that person if you want to see progress. You got to be that person for yourself. So listen, be that person for yourself. Show up, fight, make it a priority. This is what you need to do. It's on you. It's your responsibility. It's your ownership. Take ownership. I guarantee from there, you'll probably see much better results. Hope you enjoyed today's walk and talk. And drop any comments below. Always love reading them. Talk soon, all right?
