Eric Roberts does an incline press at 120 lb, fails the fifth rep, then nails it a week later. The whole point: add one rep, a few pounds, or any small thing each session. That's progressive overload. That's how you actually get stronger.

I'm about to show you just how simple working out actually is. Right now you see me doing these 120s on this incline press, and I'm trying to go for 5 full reps. You are going to see I do not get 5 full reps. That was my 4th rep, and then my spotter had to help me on this final rep, as you can see right here. So I didn't get 5 reps. Now, if we fast forward to this week, I'm doing those same 120s on the same exercise, trying to get 5 reps again. And this time, as you will see right here, I am able to get 5 reps on this particular exercise this week. So I did 1 more rep than last week on the same exercise with the same weight. And that is all you really need to do with workouts to see progress. Try to get 1 more rep, try to do 5 more pounds, just do a little bit better. And over time you'll see progress. I hope it helped.
