Eric Roberts breaks down why you might train hard but not look like it: not enough protein (aim for 1 gram per pound of target body weight), too much cardio and too little weight training, chasing the myth that light weights "tone" muscles, and lifting weights that aren't heavy enough. Building visible muscle requires progressive overload and proper nutrition.

Here is why you go to the gym and you work out, but you don't really look like you work out. First reason, you're not eating anywhere near enough protein. Try to get around 1 gram of protein per pound of goal body weight. That is in pounds. You want to weigh 150 pounds, try to get somewhere around 150 grams of protein. Number 2, when you are doing your workouts, you're doing way too much cardio and not enough weightlifting. Number 3, when you are weightlifting, you're trying to focus on less weight for higher reps, to tone the muscle. You do not tone a muscle, you just build the muscle. So if you want the toned look, you have to build the muscle, which means number 4, you got to start lifting heavier and you got to start pushing yourself close to failure. Lifting weights and working out is not supposed to be a pillow fight. It's supposed to challenge you and you're supposed to push yourself. Do those 4 things and I promise you'll look better. What up?
