One person secretly saved $50-$75 a week to surprise their partner with a trip to Canyon Ranch, a luxury wellness resort. As the only man under 70 there, they got plenty of attention from staff and guests. They discuss how pre-saving the money meant they could actually enjoy it without guilt.
We did a trip to Canyon Ranch. We did you. I heard you mention Canyon Ranch once in passing. Ten years ago or something. Yeah. And I remember you saying if I could have a dream come true it'd be go to Canyon Ranch. And it wasn't probably that phrase but I heard that in my Canyon Ranch account in that moment started saving 75 bucks. I think it was a week or 50 bucks a week. Canyon Ranch ain't cheap and we saved for it. And I surprised you. What did it feel like? We were at Matt Cox's in Kathy Cox's house down in Virginia. I told you we had a surprise event coming up. I wasn't going to tell you until one week prior. That was one week pr.

What did that feel like?
I was shocked. I didn't remember talking about Canyon Ranch. I've heard of Canyon Ranch. I mostly heard of it under the guise of like a girls trip like yoga and healthy food and hiking and things like that. Relaxing. So I didn't really know much about it. So I was shocked and I did not remember that. It was a dream trip for me.
And maybe it was no longer right the way that dream had passed.

It was a blast. It was unique. It was definitely more of a women's retreats facility.
Yes. You were very popular there.
Yeah, let's talk about that real quick. I was very popular cuz I was the only guy under 70 perhaps. Guess. Yeah, only guest under 70 so that's an automatic win. And it's all women there, including the staff.
You were a hit with the staff.
Yeah.
That's really where you were shining. Yeah, yeah, that was, that was really fun.
I was ogled.
You were. And, and I don't blame them.
That's my 15 seconds of pain. What did it mean from the financial aspect to do that trip? Did you have any worries, any concerns about the financials?
I didn't know and I didn't do any research on it. I just let it happen because I was so shocked and surprised and just there for the journey. But afterwards because it's all like done, it's all paid for, it's kind of all inclusive. So there was nothing for me to see. So that was something I didn't even look into until afterwards.
And then I was like wowza, wowza. But we had saved all in advance so I don't consider it a expense meaning it sort been saved for. But I think we were both totally present at the end too. I was like gosh, that, that was rich, but also it wasn't a dent on anything because we'd saved for in advance. And so for me, that was like we could be so present.
