Hair Sample Cutting Video | The Elevate Institute | REVEAL HMA Programs

Eva Vennari shows how to cut a hair sample for the REVEAL HMA program: wash with zinc-free shampoo, let it dry, then cut three 1-inch strips from the scalp (right, middle, left), not from the drain. The sample must represent the last 30 days of growth.

Okay, this is Eva with the Elevate Institute, and this is a demonstration of how to cut your sample. So once you've washed your hair and in simple shampoo, so you want to make sure it's not with anything that has zinc in it like a dander shampoo of some kind, no conditioner and no product. So make sure that it's been within the 24 hours, your hair is dry, so you don't want it wet because that changes How the weight of it is. You've taken your kit and dismantled it and put together your little scale, right? So you fold it over both sides, and then as it sits on a, on a flat surface and you add the hair, it tips when you cut enough. So you never cut too much or too little. This tells you how much you need to do. So here's how I do it, and it's a formula that works every time. If you go between the 2 ears And just make almost like a ponytail. I'm going to have you hold your hair up like that for me. Thank you. And then what I do is I make 3 very small, skinny cuts. So you have about an inch high and 2 or 3 strands wide of hair. And you do this 3 times. Once on the right, once in the middle, and then once on the left. And that's the perfect formula, and you get just enough hair. But you always want to back that up by using your scale. So if you don't have your scale, you can use this, but the scale helps us not guess. So here's your first cut, and you're going to cut as close to the scalp as possible without touching the scalp itself. Okay, so you can see I've cut— it's a nice slender piece of hair, and I'm going to cut off and add to the scale. My cat is pulling on the cord, so there goes my camera. But we're going to cut about an inch's worth, and that's all we want. We want the last 30 days' worth of information. So I'm going to put that on the scale and cut that off. And then this goes in the trash. So we don't want the ends. And I gotta say, the most common question I get is, can I just pull the hair from the bottom of the drain? No, we want hair that's still attached to you, that is not old information, that has recalibrated all of its natural oils from your scalp as it's dried. That's the whole purpose of it. Okay, so here's the middle section cutting. There's 2. 3. And sometimes if you have really thick strands of hair, you only need 2 cuts, but in my experience, most everybody's needed 3 full cuts. I need to redo this real quick. And there you go. Hold that. Thank you. Whoops, I'm sorry, I pulled hair. All right, and then this is the last piece. And your scale should be loaded, and it will look like that. So here's all the hair. Thank you very much. And it goes into the envelope that came in your kit, and then send it back to me in the self-addressed envelope. That's it. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
