Jeff For Local Marketing says organic social media won't drive sales directly. Use it to grab attention and send people to your website instead, like a sign-spinner drawing customers into a store. Share proof of work, not self-promotion.

I think when it comes to social media especially for small businesses the thought process needs to be changed just a little bit. One is it's really not a place where you make the transaction complete. It's like the sign spinner on the street. He doesn't sell mattresses. He gets the attention and then people walk in the store and buy the mattress. I think if we take that on when it comes to social media we'll be more apt to use it and leverage it in such a way that we're using it to to share content that's helpful for our customers and then not so much of as a chest beating. I'm the greatest but here's a situation that we dealt with and how we dealt with it. Proving the concept whether it's a service or it's a product based business I think using it in that manner can be very beneficial. And then back it up with content on your website that supports that.
