To Ai or Not To Ai...Is This Really The Question? LIVE

A live monologue by Jeff For Local Marketing arguing that adopting AI is analogous to choosing automobiles over horses: businesses should start using AI now to stay competitive. He explains practical entry points (e.g., emails, blog posts, social media, video scripts), emphasizes prompt quality and ‘tuning’/training AI to match a creator’s voice, describes building AI-driven automation workflows to scale content production, and issues a call-to-action for local business owners to begin experimenting with AI.

The question right now on a lot of people's mind is, well, should I be using AI or should I not be using AI? So my question is, is this really the question? I mean, it's almost like if we had an opportunity to take a horse or ride in a car, would that really be a question if the journey were 20 miles or even a mile away? Well, we would probably easily choose the car. I think of AI right now as the automobile of our current age. In other words, the technology is that far advanced. Now, are there some problems? Sure. You know, just like a car might run out of gas and needs to have the oil change, it has a flat tire. Sometimes, you know, things go wrong. Sometimes somebody steals a catalytic converter off your car. But it doesn't mean we stop using it or we don't use it. You. You know, I remember not too long ago when adopting some of the technologies we take for granted today were resisted. And what, what happened was those who adopted it accelerated and grew their businesses. Those who resisted it when they did feel like it was time to get on, they had to really play catch up. And some of them never caught up. In fact, some of those, we don't even see their businesses hanging their shingle anymore because they've gone out of business. Now, I'm not saying if you decide not to use AI that you're going to go out of business, but what I am going to say is you should start playing around with it. You know, it's free. You can get a product like ChatGPT, sign up for a free membership or a free account, and start doing some things. And, you know, part of the starting is knowing that you're going to screw up some things. And here's the coolest part, you can't break it. So I would try, if I were you, and I were just coaching you or counseling you to start using it, I'd say, hey, if you use email, I would start saying, hey, can it help me write emails? Well, after doing it for now, almost 12 full months, I can tell you absolutely. Actually, 14 full months, absolutely. It can help you write emails much, much faster and more creatively and, you know, just, just efficiently. So I would say start jumping in and doing this. Now, there's a portion of this where good in equals good out, garbage in equals garbage out. And in this case it's called a prompt. And this is one of those things where you say, well, if I ask it a good question, it will give me a good answer. If I ask it a poor question, it will Give me a poor answer. So if you actually let's, let's use a calculator as an example. If you put in the wrong numbers seeking the right answer, you're going to be frustrated and you're going to say, hey, this calculator thing doesn't work and you're going to toss it away. The same is true when you're using AI, this large language model. So if you're saying, hey, give me 10 topics to write about as a local business owner who owns an ice cream shop, well, it could probably, it will give you 10 topics and that would be a decent start. And you look at those and say, well, you know, the answers are not real impressive. Well, what could you do? Well, you could give more information, help me write 10 topics for my ice cream shop located in XYZ, that city. And most of my customers are the age or between the ages of X, Y and Z and most of my customers are male or female and give me 10 topics to help me grow my business that I could, that I could write about and that could be on social media. But let's say we're going to write it for emails now because you've given it a lot more information, it can give you a better response. And what it will do, it'll start crafting these responses in such a way that you look at this email, you're like, hey, these are pretty good, these are pretty good. But it's not what I would say. It doesn't talk in my language. So there's a process and I'm going to call it tuning and training.
And if you have written, let's use emails again, let's say you've written a series of emails and you like them and they do decently well, what you can do is you can copy and paste those into chat GPT and you can give it a new prompt. Hey, I am going to give you a series of emails that Jeff Harrison has written and I would like you to extract his style and his tone and his pace and his use of the English language to craft new emails. Do you understand? Please type yes if you do. And it says, okay, we'll do this. So now you put those emails in there and you put one, you can put 10, you can put 20 in there, you can put as unlendon number of ones. And now what'll happen is now when you put a request in, it will tend to try to sound and act and use your tonality pace of language and also it will sound like you the first time I did this. It was a little freaky because as I looked at, I'm like, oh my gosh, I would say that. Well, of course I would, because I fed in information that will be helpful. Now what I've done beyond that is using AI for many things. But now what I'll do is an example. Let's say for instance, I'm writing a script for a video. I will let it know who and how I want it to be. You are a world class copywriter who specializes in scripting videos to help companies have highly engaging and influential videos. I want you. And then so now it kind, you've kind of set the, set this parameters for who it is and what it is trying to achieve. And what I see from this, the results are incredibly strong.
Now here's another thing you can do and I could go on and on about this, but the point is, is to AI or not to AI, I say, you know, start wading into the pool, get your feet wet, then work up to your ankles and knees and start utilizing it. Here's the thing, those who adopt the new technology will be so far ahead of those who do not, because, excuse me, those who do not.
Will find themselves way behind the eight ball. And I saw this when, you know, people said, well, you know, I don't use, I don't use social media, I don't use Facebook, I don't use, you know, any of these, these social media platforms for my business. And I said, well, how's that working out for you? Well, business has dropped off. You know, we don't, people don't know how to find us. But then when they start posting on these platforms, they have some kind of social presence that when people think about, well, I need somebody who, who does X, Y and Z, they start noticing that you have a presence, you've created content, you've got videos, you've got articles and things of that nature, nature out there giving me a reference of, hey, this person kind of knows what they're talking about. AI can help you with all of that. You know, AI can go from, from. And I'll just give you a couple of cases, use cases that we've got it for. Okay? So it will write content for your blog posts for your website. It will create social media posts for all your platforms. It will write scripts for videos.
It will write descriptions and titles for your videos. It will write titles and headlines and descriptions for your social media platforms. This is just a tip of the iceberg. You know, what we're doing now is we're starting to expand that and say using artificial intelligence, we are building an automation workflow. And so what this is allowing us to do is we're investing a lot of money into creating something that, that like will help them get to the level they need to get to as far as posting and creating content to keep them relevant in their local market. Now I want to make a reference here and I have tremendous respect for this person and I don't mean this as a negative. I just, it's an awareness that is very difficult. There's a gentleman named Gary Vaynerchuk, his Gary V. And I've been watching him for a long time. If you looked on my shelves, I have his books, I've read all his books. I love this guy. I think he's great. He has a lot of common sense information and he also is the owner of one of the largest marketing and media companies on the planet. And he says something, he said, if you're not making content, this is what he challenges to do. And this mark hasn't changed much. He said, I challenge you to put 15 to 20 pieces of content out every day.
That even as I say, it can feel overwhelming. And this is what we do, we make content for clients. And while we'll probably put out, you know, a hundred plus pieces of content today.
We don't do it for one customer. And it works very well. But this new automation workflow that we're building would allow us to hit some of those numbers without all the effort because of automation and AI. So I want you to think about something. Let's say you are a H Vac company and you're competing against me and I have an H Vac company and I have this automation workflow with artificial intelligence in it and I'm producing.
20, 30 pieces of content today, whether it's a combination of blog posts, it's social media posts, it's videos, it's emails, whatever it may be, right? And it's going out with minimal intervention by me. I mean, I'm checking it to make sure, hey, it says what it needs to say and it's not, it's not incorrect and all the stuff is really good and it's being posted every day. If you're competing against me.
I'm sorry, you're, you're going to be left behind because if you're saying, well, I'm posting once a day, I'm 20xing you and I'm doing this on four or five platforms. So if I'm putting out 20 pieces of content at five on five different platforms. That's 100 pieces of content plus blog posts that are rating on Google every day.
Well, when somebody searches for, hey, why is my air conditioning blowing warm air? And I already have five articles on there and 42 blog posts, or, excuse me, 42 social media posts that deal with that in some way to shape or form.
When they see that, who are they going to think is probably got a handle on this? And maybe they're the authority in their marketplace. Well, obviously the one who puts out all the content. Well, that's what I'm working on and I should have that ready to go in just, I think in a few weeks. We're just testing it right now and finishing the build out and tweaking it here and there. But this is something that will allow local business owners to compete at a very high level. So, to AI or not to AI, Is this really the question? To take a horse or to take a car? Is that really the question? It's time to get on the AI horse and learn how to ride it. And remember, the person on the back of that horse is in control. You are the one who drives that. You're the one who makes sure it stops. When it stops, it turns left or turns right. It doesn't just run for the barn on its own. Knowing how to do things like prompt engineering and that sounds technical, it sounds complicated. Knowing how to ask the right questions to get the responses you're looking forward to getting back. And this is one of those things where there's some trial and error with that. That's what we did. We've been trial and error for quite a long time. And we just keep getting better and better and better. Because here's the thing, the more we sharpen our saws, the easier the wood is to cut. Let me repeat that. The more we sharpen our saws, the easier it is to cut the wood. Why? Because we're not going out with a dull edge. We are cutting the same wood you are, except we're doing it with such a razor sharp edge that we are cutting more wood. We're producing 15 to 20 pieces of content today. It's not because we're better, it's just because we keep practicing. You know, one of the things that, and I've heard this from a guy named Myron golden and many others.
Knowledge is not power. Knowledge is only potential power. Putting that knowledge to work.
And working, that is really where the power comes in. Because every time we do something and if it doesn't produce the results we want, what do we do? We go back and tweak it. We go back and tweak it and then when we get the result, we say, hey, this is the prompt we want. And now we turn that into part of our system and our processes. So now, whether it's me or it's one of my staff or you, you're putting that in there, you're going to get high results. So I encourage you to really consider this. Should I be doing AI.
Or should I not? Should I be using automation or should I not?
Well, unless you live in a small town and you're the only, only business in that community that serves your community with your specific product or service, I say yes. Even if it's just simply, you know, writing your emails, your communications. And I've only. I've only scratched a very small surface of what we're using AI for and what it's capable of doing. So I want to challenge you today. Hey, are you using AI? Do you know how to use AI? If you don't.
I'm going to be coming up with some lunch and learns, if you will. I'm going to invite a small group of people to join me, either in person or online, and I'm just going to walk through some of these things and start showing you how you can use AI to get the results you want. Just like you can get from your farm into the city faster and easier, more comfortably with a car than you can on the back of the horse. My name is Jeff Harrison. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you. If you have any questions or comments about this, please put that in the comment. I'd love to hear you and have that engagement with you. Thank you.
