Singapore is the place in Asia to be for research and for business. That's why ETH Zurich decided to move to Singapore and open a research center.
We look into future cities and we build up a network, knowledge and local insights which we want to share with companies. The way we do it is we establish the Swiss Technology Impact Platform. For the Swiss companies who would like to expand to Asia. One way of sharing this knowledge is to conduct a study tour to expose them to the knowledge and contacts in Singapore and Indonesia. A very warm welcome ladies and gentlemen. It's a great pleasure to welcome you in the Singapore ETH Centre. Today is the start of the first Swiss Technology Impact Platform study tours.
The program is a three days visit to Singapore and two day visit to Indonesia.
We have a set of talks, presentations from leading agencies in Singapore and Indonesia and we expose them to the latest idea of the governments, have lunches, dinners with researchers, policymakers and leading business people.
When I joined I thought maybe it's a little bit too academic, but at the end of the day it's very concrete, it's real business. And there's a good combination of both bringing the know how and the concrete business opportunities to us. On the table.
Was when we met the edb, the Economic Development Board. We received the chance to speak to two of the representatives and we took the chance and spoke to them four times longer than planned. We even missed the bus and only three, four hours later we received an invitation for a follow up meeting at the office. And that was a true highlight.
When I started the idea was not to make a lot out of Singapore. I was more orientated on Indonesia and now I found out Singapore is really a good point to start business or spread business all over Asia. So I will seriously think about that opportunity because the responsitivity of the people there was really great. They are interested in our technology.
The value of STIP is really that it's an excellent group of motivated companies and high tech companies and we can really learn of each other and we can also inspire each other. SDIP is also giving us a good link to research people in Singapore and also in Switzerland.
I'm very pleased about this deep initiative taken by the ETR because it brings science and business together, facilitated by the ET HA and together with other actors like the Business association, the Embassy, the business hub can contribute valuably to this enhancement of Swiss industry present in Singapore and in the region.
The benefit for ETH Singapore is clearly knowledge to action. We need to engage with the businesses to bring our innovation to the market, and we do that through the Swiss Technology impact platform by joining the discussion of what is needed and adding our innovations to the value chain of the companies.
