In this segment of the "Flipping 50 Top 10 Podcasts of 2023" episode, the host introduces a personal sleep solution aimed at women experiencing perimenopause and postmenopause symptoms, particularly migraines. The sponsor, Blue Sky CBD, is promoted for its sleep gels containing 25 mg of CBD and 25 mg of CBN, which the speaker claims reduce inflammation and support restorative sleep without harming gut or liver health. The gels are described as THC‑free, non‑habit‑forming, third‑party tested, and produced by a family‑owned company. Listeners are offered a $6 sample and a permanent 30 % discount using the code FLIPPING50, with a call‑to‑action to visit flipping50.com/blueskycbd.

Real quick, before we dive into this episode, I have a little sleep secret I want to tell you about. Look, sleep is crucial for your fitness, but it's crucial for just plain old everyday life and function.
And I find I sleep great unless I have a migraine.
And I've had more than my fair share since perimenopause all the way through postmenopause. My secret weapon was Blue Sky CBD sleep gels. Each gel contains 25mg of CBD and 25mg CBN for deep restorative sleep. Something about it helps to reduce inflammation, which I believe for me was key in helping me get to sleep. But the biggest thing is so many of the over-the-counter solutions, whether for sleep or migraines, can ruin gut health, and liver health. Neither one of those did I want to be problematic for me. So this option is recommended by healthcare providers worldwide and backed by thousands of happy customers, many of whom come from our Flipping 50 community. There is zero THC, so it's non-habit-forming. It's made by a trusted family-owned company that we all can feel good about. Third-party tested for purity and potency. And if you're interested, you too can try a sample for just $6. But even better, you can get 30% off forever with discount code FLIPPING50.
That's FLIPPING50.

What are you waiting for? Good night. Happy holiday season, everybody. This one of my absolute favorite podcasts to do of the year. You will find all the top 10 podcasts of 2023 as voted by you and your downloads. That's how you vote. So whether you're listening from the show notes pages at flipping50.com, on iTunes, iHeartRadio, Spotify, or any of 80 of the other platforms where this episode and all the Flipping 50 podcasts are published. This 10-year-old podcast appears twice weekly. I am grateful for you. So thank you so much for being here and for spreading the wealth of the podcast and hopefully the community that this feels. You know, I think we all have noticed this. I think the pandemic did this for a lot of people, but especially if you are a woman in midlife, you can be very connected to a lot of people and yet often feel very alone, especially if you happen to be struggling in one of two ways. So both my podcasts really work with a lot of women who could be struggling. One, building your business in a solo entrepreneurship. That's what we cover in the She Means Business Fitness Business podcast. But here at Flipping 50, you know, trying to solve problems on your own and sort through who do I go to for information, who can I trust, you know, what I hope is that we make it a little bit easier to locate sources for you of trust, locate where can you vet those sources, what questions should you be asking. And my hope in starting this podcast, which is my second in case you didn't know that, It's the She Means Fitness Business Podcast. That was my first. It was previously named, or previously known as if you wanted to play print, Voice for Fitness Professionals Podcast. Then it was Fitness Marketing Mastery Podcast. This is the first podcast I began back in 2012. So yeah, I've been doing this for a minute. It's a lot of episodes and a lot of interviews and a lot of tips considering I've done 30-day sprints of podcasts, like in 2020 when we were all so isolated. Even with a daily episode then, you know, for the business podcast and weekly right now, regularly I provide 2 episodes a week each podcast. That's 4, I know, right? And occasionally there's a bonus episode. I am a teacher though. My goal is that I use my sense of answering questions before you know to ask in episodes where I either am diving into a topic based on your requests and questions, or I'm interviewing somebody like Dr. David Rosensweet, whose episode appears here, Jim Stevens, fasting, intermittent fasting expert, or hosting a group of over 60 and not the number 60, but the age 60, bodybuilders. Those are some of the episodes that we're gonna go over here. I can't wait to spend more time with you in 2024. If you love the podcast, you also may be interested in the recordings from the 7-day summit that I hosted in May of 2023. The What, When, and Why to Exercise for Women 40 and Over recording bundle comes with other perks and downloads. And you get 39 expert recordings on topics directly related to success with exercise over 40. So although this podcast is a little broader than that, it's all the things, and it's sometimes the things in life that affect or impact our commitment, willingness, motivation, time availability to do the exercise that we cover here. That is a very deep-down drill on exercise specifically. So I am Debra Atkinson. You're listening to Flipping 50, where I address your top struggles and concerns, but most of all, we want to inspire you. And none more than this at the end, depending on when you're listening, or the beginning of a brand new year, looking ahead to what it is we want, focusing a little bit less on what it is we don't so that we can actually get what we think of most often and attract it. I share what to eat, how to move, and how to change your mindset so you can have the energy and the vitality that you want, need, and deserve. Let's do this Letterman style because I am an Iowa girl, and David Letterman, in case you didn't know it, is also from Iowa. So in Letterman style, from the top 10, we start with number 10, the number Number 10 episode of our top podcast of 2023 is Which Hormones Matter Most in Menopause. In this episode, I break down the hormones that impact your exercise needs, needs not tos, and discuss some surprising ways to improve exercise benefits that target changes that generally you want in menopause. This one is a not-to-miss. It actually made the top 10, and it was released in August. So as you might guess, it was quick out of the gate. So those podcasts that have been released since January obviously have had far greater time to be downloaded. So we do a lot of things to sway what determines what makes it number 9. Build bone after osteoporosis is probably one of the top concerns for most women right after weight gain. And I will say that the older we get, the more the bone density becomes an issue because that feels like, okay, it's, it's potentially devastating. It's a threat of disability. If we fall and fracture, we're in trouble. We can't move as much as we want to or need to in order to lose the weight But until a certain point, weight may precede our feelings or worry, concern about osteoporosis. Released in October during Menopause Month, when we also hit an Osteoporosis Day, this episode quickly jumped to a record downloads. We care about bones. We're confused about exercise and how to get bone density improvements from it. And this is, by the way, another reason to grab the What, When, and Why to Exercise bundle. For discussions with bone health experts like Belinda Beck out of Australia doing research, Kevin Ellis, who is the bone health doc, as well as gut expert Vincent Pedre, who can point out just how important gut health is to both muscle and bone because we've got to be absorbing what it is we eat. All these links, by the way, will be in the show notes today in case you missed something. You can get there too quickly or you'll know and have that reminder of what is it, what is it that I need. Number 8, Midlife Changes with Intermittent Fasting Expert Gin Stephens. We're enamored or confused by the application of intermittent fasting in our everyday lives together with exercise. How do they coexist? This episode shares Gin's personal journey of weight loss via intermittent fasting bestselling author and host of multiple podcasts on the topic of intermittent fasting. It's fascinating. It is not the first time she's been with us because she has multiple bestselling books. I think we had her on with her last one, but I think you will find her a down-to-earth girl next door, someone that you can really resonate with. Number 7, A Hormone Therapy Roadmap: What, When, and Why. In all the interviews that I have done, and you've heard the number of episodes I've recorded, the number of interviews I've done with guests on both shows combined, this is hands down my favorite interview. The value bombs that Dr. Rosensweet dropped were unlike any other hormone expert, and there have been many on this show that I love and respect. But he has a way of responding to my questions, of doing the dance of an interviewer, interviewee, both here solely for the purpose of giving clarity to listeners. And I, I couldn't have felt that more than I did. For an understanding of hormones, of the what, when, and why, and dissection of it for you and for your needs, this episode is a keeper. And if I could override your vote on this one. It only landed at number 7. It was released in November, so that makes it harder for it to score really well. So making it to the top 10, number 1, says a lot. But this would be my personal favorite, and my personal favorite to give to you. I think you may not be asking questions about hormone therapy, but I think that this episode, even if you're not, will be of value to you. Number 6 is 21 Walking Tips, and this is menopause questions and answers, and it includes a video of me relaying these. This, I must say, is also a favorite of mine, and I was thrilled to have this and the one preceding it that was really content, me sharing the facts, the science, and the how-tos. This was the follow-up. You had so many questions. 21 questions came in that were— okay, I'm going to cap it right here, but I answered each and every one of them. Apparently we walk and we want to know how it matters, how it reinforces the walking that we're already doing. And this, this one fielded the content itself in the episode preceding, fielded 21 questions from our community about walking. And this episode is all about Let's answer it. Let's answer it for you and for anybody else who needs it. And I believe that was kind of September, October as we released all those, a time of year when for many of you walking becomes very, very pleasant. So dive into that, and I hope you're looking at walking as a part of your lifestyle changes in 2024 as well. Number 5, you're doing really well. All right, you made it. This is the second half. Number 5 of the top podcast episodes of 2023 is Bodybuilding for Women Over 50 and 60 or 70, by the way, or Life Building really is what this one was all about. We love to be inspired is my takeaway from your vote on this one. This episode is evidence from both sides that women support women more in midlife and beyond than ever. The guests in this group wanted to share everything about their own journey to, you know, never lifting before in their lives, to starting to strength train, to then going into actually bodybuilding and competing on stage in a teeny weeny little, maybe not yellow, bikini with rhinestones nonetheless. And they wanted to share what that was like. And I think to relay the fact that they're just like you. And even if you're thinking, no, never, they probably were too. And the response from our community from the video, you can find that on my YouTube channel, by the way, thanking the women and 100% positive says a lot about how we want to believe that if they can, we can. Or if she did, I can too. And you can. Maybe it's not that, but it's some other facet of fitness or health. Number 4 of the top podcast episode of 2023 was Your Best 2023. It really— this podcast acts or behaves like a free workshop. And here's where it came from. I have been certified as a life coach since 2022. I don't— you don't ever hear me use that term. To me, that sounds a little bit like something that is godlike. It's just a little bit too powerful that I would be your life coach. It's too much. So I've preferred to use you know, coach, wellness coach, health coach, fitness coach, and of course combine that and the skills required. So I often do with our fitness pros and health coaches share executive coaching skills as well as them taking care of themselves and looking at how they, how they promote and do their business better. But for you, it's really about looking deep down at what you've learned in this last year. No matter what, it may have gone terrible, but in general, there was something to be happy and grateful for every single day. You're still here. Clearly someone still thinks you're not done yet. And I released this episode, it's far more like a workshop. It came out January 1st. So that is actually when the time of year when I have used this for over 20 years as a workshop for personal trainers working in a business, looking at their own personal lives but also their business and what they wanted for it in the coming year. Multiple times I've done $100 value workshops I've given to corporations, women's groups, and coaching clients for 22 years. I give it to you for free, and if you loved it, and so many of you did, and played it over and over again, it's still very applicable in 2024. The only thing in your ears that you would need to change is when you hear me say, what did you, what did you learn in 2022? You're just going to shift that and say, what did you learn in 2023? It's all still applicable, and I will put it there. And I highly recommend you give yourself 2 or 3 hours or more and a cozy, quiet space where you're warm, wiggling your toes in your slippers, or maybe you're outside on a beach. I don't know, but you do need to write. So this is one podcast where I hope you're not walking. I hope you dedicate some time to putting pen on paper or fingers on a keyboard if that's your jam. Podcast number 3 of the top podcast episodes of 2023, Weight Management After 50 and Beyond. Look, weight gain in menopause is often a challenge to figure out. Even doctors are not immune, and though maybe they have tools to figure it out faster, they too can gain weight. This episode discusses the mechanisms, the default steps we take, and how they may backfire. So what do you do instead? And number 2, we're getting to the top here of the top podcast episodes of 2023. Easy fat loss for women over 50. Um, are you seeing a theme here? Now wait till I get to number 1 and you definitely will. Fat loss and weight management are top of mind for women in midlife. The uncontrollable weight sometimes coming on with no reason or notice is a source of frustration for many women in midlife. Even if it's not weight, body composition or belly fat often shift. And the number 1 top podcast episode of 2023 is Midlife Weight Loss: Burn Body Fat and Balance Your Hormones. This top podcast episode says a lot about our number 1 concerns. My friend, I, my hope for you in 2024 is that we put this one to bed for you, along with the sometimes ignored facts that drive weight loss resistance. Exercising in a way that we've always exercised and eating in a way that we've always eaten will result in less muscle, more fat, and potentially greater imbalance of hormones causing it all. Spend time with me in 2024. That would be my wish to help with fat loss, with midlife weight loss if that's what you need, or weight management, meaning Let's look at your muscle.
