Short spoken excerpt from Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd (appearing in a Fortitude 365 YouTube upload). Lloyd emphasizes team roles: not every player’s role is to score, and playing time is earned through effort, energy, defense, rebounding, attention, and making valuable plays rather than riding hot shooting streaks. The message targets young players learning to value non-scoring contributions.

In this game of basketball there's somebody jobs some guys get to shoot threes, some guys don't, you know and and then there there's everybody jobs everybody has to play with effort and energy. Everybody has to rebound, you know everybody has to you know be attentive on defense. And so you know that that's the message and sometimes you know, young players get hung up on, you know, you know, whether they're scoring points or not. And and obviously this is you know it's a a very offensive centric game you know from a media and a fan perspective. And and you know we we know that there's another way and the way you get on the court is effort, energy and focus on making those plays and value those plays. Then you don't have to go ride the ebbs and flows of shooting. So that's been my message and hopefully as they mature as players they understand that.
