Jeff Wenzel recommends starting ads 3-4 months before your raise to build an audience, then waiting for organic contributions to hit $250-300k before spending on paid media. Once you reach that threshold, use $50k from the campaign itself to fund ads, guided by real performance data like cost-per-acquisition.

A lot of people ask me when you should start paid media in an equity crowdfunding campaign, and there's really 2 answers. First answer is going to be you probably should have started a lead gen campaign 3 or 4 months before you launch so that you actually built an audience or a crowd if you don't have one. So that's gonna be answer number one, and that's gonna be 100% focused on lead generation. Second answer is going to be once the campaign goes live, what I recommend is organically getting to about $250,000 to $300,000 from friends and family or your inner network And then from there, doing a rolling close, pulling money out of the campaign, probably around $50,000 or so, and then using what I would describe as house money to invest in paid media. And at that point, you should have enough data on your average investor size, highs and lows, maybe what a cost per acquisition has looked like, and kind of some feedback into the campaign. So again, so that's what I'd recommend is if the campaign's live, wait until some money is coming organically. and then do a rolling close, then use some of that money and really focus down on your creatives.
