Ryan from Schematic shows how to set up usage-based pricing in minutes. He creates an "AI Conversations" feature, tracks when users start conversations, and charges one-tenth of a penny per event through Stripe. Schematic automatically tallies the monthly usage and generates the bill.

Hi, I'm Ryan, a developer at Schematic, and today I want to show you how to roll out a simple usage-based pricing plan. We're going to focus on pay-as-you-go, which is a really simple form of usage-based pricing where usage is tallied up across the month, and then at the end, a user is billed for the amount of usage they've accrued. To start, let's create our feature, and for this feature, we're going to be building an AI conversation feature. So we'll call our feature AI Conversations, And we're going to select event-based, which means this is a feature where your system is going to be generating events and Schematic will be tracking them for you. The flag can just be AI conversations, and then for the event, this is the event you'll actually send us that we'll be tracking, and we're going to call this AI conversation started. Once you click save, now we have this event, and now let's add it to our plan. So in our case, we're going to add this to our Pro plan. And we're going to select pay as you go. And again, this means that anytime the user does this, we're going to charge them a small amount, which we will add up across the month and then bill them at the end of the month when we send them, you know, their monthly bill for their product usage. In our case, we map this to an AI Conversations product we've already created in Stripe, and then we select our monthly, monthly price. In this case, this is going to be a 10th of a penny. So anytime they take one of these actions, we'll we'll be charging them a tenth of a penny. And that's it. That's how quickly you can add usage-based pricing to your product through Schematic. Thanks.
