Setting up Pay as you Go in Schematic

Gio sets up usage-based pricing in Schematic, converting a fixed search allowance to a $0.05 per-search charge linked to Stripe. After a customer completes checkout and runs three searches, the portal instantly shows the $0.15 charge.

Hey, it's Gio. Today we're launching our first end-to-end usage-based pricing model called pay-as-you-go. Let me show you how it works. So I'm going to hop into our sample app here. I'm in my customer portal that's powered by Schematic. I go to change a plan and I see this standard plan. It's got 10 pin locations per month and 100 searches per month. I'm on the free plan currently, but what if I want to make this 100 searches per month actually a pay-as-you-go model, meaning I pay for each search instead of just an allotment of searches per month. Let me show you how to do that in Schematic. So we jump into the features page here. We go to the search feature. We can see the entitlement for the standard plan, and currently it's just included in the plan. So you get 100 searches per month and that's just included. Let's now jump into pay as you go. Now I have a pay as you go price or, um, model set up. I can go ahead and choose the right Stripe prices, one monthly, one yearly build, and now I can save my changes. And now the pricing model is pay as you go. So I pay 5 cents per search per month, and instead of just getting 100 searches for the month, and I have usage-based. Now if I go back and I jump into my customer portal and I go to change a plan, I can see that now it's 5 searches, 5 cents per search. I can choose that plan. I can go in here, I can choose any add-ons I want, and I can go ahead and check out. Let me just add a little credit card. I've added my credit card and now I've paid, and now I'm on the standard plan. And I pay as I go with my searches. So if I go here and I just make a couple more searches here— New York, Los Angeles— I can go back to my customer portal. I can see that I've made 3 searches and I've been charged 15 cents. So this is useful for any product where you need to charge per use, maybe queries, maybe searches, and that's the pay-as-you-go model. More coming soon.
