Setting up Trials in Schematic

Gio shows how to set up trials in Schematic, from enabling a 10-day trial on the Enterprise plan to requiring a payment method. Users see remaining trial days on their dashboard and auto-convert to a paid subscription when the trial ends, or downgrade to free if no card is on file.

Hey, it's Gio here with another new schematic feature. This one's called trials. So imagine I'm in this company, AI Talk Therapy, and here I am in my, in my test app using this product weather app, and I can see my dashboard. I'm on the free plan, I have 10 searches, um, and here I am on the admin side. I can see this customer, they're on the free plan with 10 searches, and now I want to make my Enterprise plan trialable. So right now, if I go in here as a user, I see my, my plans. I can see the Enterprise plan. If I choose it, you know, I have to pay for it. I have to subscribe and it costs money right away. Let's make this plan trialable in Schematic. So we go to Enterprise here, we can see the different entitlements, we hit Edit Plan, we go to Trial, and we toggle this on. Now this trial will be 30 days. I can change this. I want to make my, uh, enterprise trial just 10 days. You can see here that the payment method is not required. Um, and at the end of the trial, they'll be downgraded back to the free plan. So I'll hit save here. And actually I'm thinking about it. I want to make my trial a paid trial or rather a trial that requires a credit card. So I'll go into my catalog configuration tab. I'll go here. And I'll say, okay, I want to require payment methods to start the trial. So I'll hit save here. Now if I go back to the, my customer dashboard, I'm back as a user. I go to change plan. I go down here and I can see, great, the enterprise plan is now available to trial for 10 days. I hit this. It doesn't cost me anything, but because I've required a payment method, I need to, as a user, add that payment method. And now what happens is if once this trial period ends— just putting in a fake credit card here— I will— my subscription will actually start. So let me save this payment method. I'm going to go ahead and start trial. Here we are, I'm in, and my new dashboard is here. I can see how many days are left in my trial, and I can see that once my trial ends, my subscription will start because this is a payment method required trial. If a payment method is not required, you'll just be downgraded back to the free plan. So that's how trials work in Schematic.
