Preview: 2025 College Majors Completion App from College Viability

Gary Stocker previews College Viability's new app tracking completion rates across 67 college majors at 2- and 4-year institutions from 2020-2023. The free demo covers Arizona and Ohio, lets you filter by state and major, and shows what percentage of graduates come from each university. Feedback welcome at gary@collegeviability.com.

Hi, it's Gary Stocker with College Viability. I'm going to do the first top-bottom report for 2025. Kind of want to do a show and tell for the 2025 college majors completions app. I'm going to show you the working version, then I'll show you a quick look at what the final version will be, just kind of get some feedback, show you what it's going to look like. And it should be out here in the next couple of weeks. But anyway, this is for all college majors, and there are 67 that we have in our database, for all public and private, 2 and 4-year colleges throughout the country. And just a quick look at what we are covering for this. You can see the number of colleges, um, there are 64 majors that we cover in the app. There are more of that in IPEDS, but we don't cover all of them because some are so small for enrollment. So we can look at any combination of the years from 2020 through 2023. We'll look at all of them. We'll grab Alabama because it's close to the top. And these are all the public and private 2 and 4-year colleges in Alabama. And then we can search any combination of majors that we want. So let's grab some common ones. Let's grab biology, let's grab business administration, let's scroll down a little bit, let's grab— how about journalism? So we've got 3 majors, and the way to look at this is there's 43 colleges that have any combination of these 3 majors. There's the 3 major counts that we have, and we can expand all of these. A couple ways to do that— we'll just expand biology. We can see that there are bachelor's degrees for the colleges. We can see the number total We can see the number for each of the individual colleges for 2020 through 2023, and then the same thing for master's. We can also look at this by college. So I'll click on the headline up here, and now we're looking at this by college. So we can expand all the stuff at Huntington College, and we can see they have biology and business administration. They don't have journalism. That's going to show all of the majors. Let's just grab— let's look at the bachelor's degrees. And so there are the bachelor's degrees for those colleges. There's Selma, there is Stillman, and we can change that from bachelor's to master's. Look at both of them. I don't know why you do that. And there's a master's program for all of these colleges, and you can see the numbers for each of those. Now that's the essence of what the data is going to be tracked like. This is the working version like that, that I'm using to set it up and working with someone else. This is what the final version will look like. Same kind of selectivity over here. This is a sample version that we'll make available for free. It's just gonna have a couple of majors. It's just gonna have one sector. It's gonna have all 4 years. But it's also gonna have only 2 states. It's gonna have Arizona and Ohio for the demo. And in addition to the colleges, we're also gonna have a market share. So for any user-selected group of colleges, this is a set from Arizona. You can see if I hover on the top that Northern Arizona has 21% of those colleges, of those majors, and that Arizona State has 47%, and that University of Arizona has 6%, 7% of those colleges. So that's the essence of what the College Viability's College Majors Completion app is going to look like for 2025. If you have some interest in this, drop me a note, gary@collegeviability.com. If you have some ideas even, I would like— I'd be interested in ways to make this a little bit better, add some more functionality as appropriate, if not right upon release, then sometime after that. And I'll look forward to getting this out, and I'll probably have that as one of the top/bottom reports in the in the coming weeks when I get the final version out. For College Viability, I'm Gary Stocker. We will be back next week with another top-bottom report.
