In this interview excerpt, Speaker A asks about John Nichols' view on whether the Board of Trustees fulfilled its fiduciary duty to Saint Joseph's College. The Board of Trustees had a fiduciary responsibility, and you go to great lengths to describe what that is. Looking back on it, is John Nichols' opinion— what is John Nichols' opinion on the board honoring that fiduciary responsibility to Saint Joseph's College?
They didn't do it. They did not. And I don't say that as commentary on any one individual. On the board, because as you pointed out earlier, in almost every case, board membership is composed of individuals who can make great decisions. They've proven it in their careers. And in St. Joe's case, I think with very few exceptions, the members of the board all love the college as much as I or anyone else did. Um, but as an entity, as a group, it didn't work. It fractured and it stopped working.
