Obviously, one of the most important tenets of marketing is honesty. But being honest and truthful is more than just the obvious stuff like features, pricing, or returns policies. It's also how you compare yourself to the competition. Today's buyers have the ability to access information about just about anything simply and quickly. You can't hoodwink prospects as they'll find out the truth sooner or later. If your product or service really is better than the others, Then prove it. Show a fair and balanced comparison of your offering against that of your competition. Not some skewed comparison table where you check all the boxes while your competitors have none. I mean a real guide to help your audience decide. The good stuff as well as the— not so good stuff. Trust your customers to make an educated decision based on the information you provided. Why should you bother to do this? Because your customers are going to do it anyway. Think about it. Excluding commodity purchases, have you ever bought anything of value without having first compared it to whatever else is out there? Your customers are no different. Assuming they'll believe anything and everything you say is naive at best and insulting at worst. If you don't help make that comparison for your prospects, don't be surprised when they make that comparison on their own. Perhaps with information they've found that doesn't show your offering in as good a light as it could.
