Attitude Awareness Month - Day 3 - Own you Attitude this Weekend
29 Apr 2021 · 12 min
A live motivational podcast episode by Glenn Bill (Get Attitude) recorded from Indianapolis around Easter/Final Four weekend. Bill identifies five major sources of stress and negativity—death, loss of spouse/divorce, loss of home, loss of health, and job loss—and presents three practical ways to stay positive: change your focus and reframe loss as new beginnings; permit negative feelings briefly but don't remain negative; and seek support rather than trying to cope alone. The episode includes sponsor messaging (KPMG), viewer interactions, and illustrative anecdotes including a Les Brown quote and a first-person cancer-survival story.

And we are live from Indianapolis, Indiana and the University of Attitude. So good to see everybody on this holy weekend, on this Final Four weekend and on the Saturday, obviously before Easter. And welcome to everyone. I know that our viewers are down a little bit on Saturdays, but hopefully our message will be good today, which is basically what we're going to do today is talk about the three ways to stay positive. I am your host, Glenn Bill, host of the Get Attitude podcast, author of the ABCs of Attitude. I will be brief and to the point. You know, I was wanting to go one direction with today's lesson on attitude and three ways to stay positive. But we have to first of all understand why we need to stay positive or what causes us to be negative. So this took me a little bit of a goose chase and I'm going to ask the question, I would love for anybody to chime in and answer this question. What are the most stressful times that create negativity? Putting it in the chat for us. I'm just wondering if anybody is out there, if they know what it would be. Because we know this. There's five things that cause stress and negativity in our life and chances are you are going through one of them and they all involve this thing called loss. So here they are. I don't see anybody chiming in on the comments, but we will go ahead and start. The five things that cause the most stress, the most negativity in your life, and the need for this lesson, we'll answer. These involve loss, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a spouse, right? Death, divorce, the loss of a home. And boy, you think about people that are dying, people that are losing their homes, their businesses through Covid, a lot of loss going on and we are emerging. And hopefully this message today will help you emerge. If you've lost somebody in the pandemic, my heart's with you. But there's been marriages that have broke up, there's been homes that have been lost or people just want to move, right? That causes great disruption, which is a huge source of stress and negativity, the loss of your health. Many of us are Fighting many health challenges. As a matter of fact, America has never been more sick in their lives. And major illness is a huge stressor. And the final reason that people are stressed out, the final reason that people are negative and can't get over it is this thing called job loss. Right? Hello, Daniel. I appreciate it. I'm glad that you've come to see us, and I'm glad you've copied and shared this out. So, Daniel, thank you so much. It's great to have you with us. So those are our five losses. Death, loss of life, loss of spouse, loss of housing, loss of health, and loss of job. So what are we supposed to do with it? Right? What are we supposed to do to stay positive when all these things, these heavy, heavy things are in our life? And I think the number one thing that you're seeing down on the banner is we feel what we focus on. You've heard this message a million times, and really your ability to change your focus. Hello, Kellen. Ann, so good to see you. Welcome to our show. Your ability to change your focus is, in fact, a choice. So if you're facing one of those five issues, I understand that it's tough not to dwell and not to focus on it. But the bottom line is you're going to have to change your focus because dwelling on the negative, dwelling on all the loss, never ending, having it stay in your mind and hold you down is not going to solve your problem. I know that so many people, when we talk about death, I was speaking to nurses, I speak to large healthcare organizations, and the nurses say, you know what? I just don't know if there's a God. I don't know what to do with all these people that die needlessly. And I search for that answer to make people feel good. I think that the only answer I can give people when we deal with loss of life is that if it is not through death, Right. For it is through death that we learn how to live. I am okay with death. I know death is not a gift to nine out of 10 people, but I choose to look and I choose to focus on death being a gift because I know that the person that has moved on has given me lessons that will live forever. And those people who have died in my life have taught me how to live at a higher level. So during this Easter weekend, if you've lost a loved one, if you're dealing with death, missing somebody, feeling like you want to pick up the phone and call them and they're not there, feeling a bit helpless, I think what we need to focus on is not the loss, but the memories, but the lessons and everything that is happening. So that's one way to do it, is change your focus and make sure that you're not dwelling on the negative. I always believe that loss creates what? A new beginning. So whether you've lost your home, you've lost your health, you lost a spouse, whatever, it is a time for you to write a new chapter. And I am excited to try to help you go, okay, we've hit the loss. But you know what, dang it, it's a new beginning. And when we always think about new beginnings, I always like to think of a newborn baby. A newborn baby is, hey, the beginning of life. And there's nothing more happy and there's nothing more joyful than a newborn baby, right? So I don't want you to focus on the loss. I want you to focus on the opportunity and the new beginning. I want you to focus on what creatively you can do in a new beginning. Again, happiness and positive energy is manifested through this thing called creativity. It's not consumption. We are a human huge consumption society. But it is manifested through what we can do to create. That is the second thing. Oh, I'm sorry. The second thing is, hey, look, it's okay to feel negative. Look, we all lose, we all have loss. But it's okay to feel negative. Just don't stay negative is the lesson. If you are a person that feels negative constantly, if you are a person that communicates negative constantly, that's just an awareness thing, which is what we've talked about. And it's okay that we say, okay for a little bit. I'm going to be negative, but we're not going to stay negative. And I just want you to give yourself a break, right? Give yourself a break. It's okay to give yourself a break. You deserve it. I don't know what you're going through. I don't know what the people around you are going through. Actually, you know what? We're all going through the same thing, so I probably do, just not this specifics, but I know this. If you change your focus, if you give yourself a break, that is going to help you stay positive. And the last thing is don't do it alone. Very few people are able to crawl out of the cycle of depression, the cycle of negative thinking, the cycle of despair on their own. And you know, there's a great thing called the Internet, there's a great thing called YouTube, there's a great thing called Glenn Bill's attitude lessons every single Wednesday that you can go to. So don't do it alone. I hope that I can be a person that can deliver that positive message to you. We're on here every day, three o'. Clock. I want to thank you all for sharing this. Please continue to share and please continue to comment. And so I've got a few people that I want to acknowledge. So those are our three ways to stay positive. I hope those work. Number one, change your focus and change your focus now. Number two, it's okay to feel the way you're feeling. Give yourself a break, and then, boom, go back to number one and change your focus. And number three, don't stay negative alone. Make sure that you're seeking out answers. Look at attitude booster number seven. Grow or die. Right? Right. Every answer you need in your life, every problem that you have will be solved through growing or you are dying. So make sure that you understand growth is what it is. I want to say hello to Gail. Thank you so much for joining in. I hope we see you each and every day. I want to say hey to my good friend Derek Bocock. To die is to gain, and I love that one. And I also want to say hello to Pavlor. Pavlor, I don't know where you're from. I would love to know where you're from. And I'm going to leave you with this quote from a book. It says, I don't know what you are facing, but after having 338 radiation seed implants for prostate cancer and seeing my PSA continue to rise over 2400 after learning that cancer had formed masses in seven areas of my body, my doctors told me that my chances for survival were slim and none. I told them I will take Slim. 27 years later, I am here because I was hungry. To stay alive. I took care of me. Continue to grow into the person that is committed to staying alive for as long as I possibly can. Someone once asked us the question, when is it that a man or a woman dies? And the answer is simply this. When their dreams die, when they stop growing, and when they stop reading. Please don't stop doing all that. Continue to live. I celebrate you all. Thank you for being here. Spread that positive message. And remember, you cannot win in life, you cannot win in business, and you cannot win in relationships unless you win in your mind first. That quote was from Les Brown's book called Hungry and please, again like this. Share it out. We will be here tomorrow each and every day just to give you a little bit of positive inspiration. I went a little bit long today because it was big and I just want to. Again, thank you all for being here. Please share this out if you like it. God bless you all. Have a happy, happy Easter and I will see you tomorrow. This podcast is a part of the C Suite Radio Network. For more top business podcasts, visit C suiteradio. Com.
