We're only going to be here for 13 minutes. We're going to be building our attitude muscles. Just like our personal bodies, you have to exercise. And what we want to do today is to challenge you and build your attitude muscles with some exercises. We focus on doing more than you're paid for. With our special guest, Dan McNally, 40 year high school chemistry teacher. And shouldn't chemists be the ones that solved this coronavirus?
Well, yes, but it's going to take time. It takes time to do the trials and everything that really would give us hard science and hard proof as to what works and what doesn't.
Hopefully we're getting There is a virus. Does a virus have a chemical makeup? Is that something.
It's biological. It's a little animal. It's a protest.
Aha. So not really, not really chemistry. Well, we'll get a biologist for the next one. But I tell you what, Dan does know something about doing more than you're paid for and he is a fan of Kent Sterling. So Ken Sterling, if you're out there, we'd love you to join us. I'm going to type you in here. And we would love to hear from, we'd love to hear from all of you as we go through this thing called do more than you're paid for. Ken, my typing is not good, but we're having fun. All right, Sterling, all right, we'll just hit it and see if that happens. Okay. So Dan, what we wanted to talk about today is attitude booster number four. Do more than you're paid for. And what I want to focus on are what we do in every show. What we do in every 13 minute attitude exercise are basically five points about the attitude booster. And then we always like to end the show with what has the coronavirus done or meant to you that was positive? Like I know all the negative things that happen with the coronavirus, but I would like to know in your attitude exercise in your mind how you can make the coronavirus positive. So let's focus on point number one. I want you to focus on doing more. It's called doing more than you're paid for. And whether you're paid or you're not paid, I think the most important thing we can do as we undergo these challenges of the coronavirus and the pandemic is to actually not focus on doing less and not focus on worrying. I heard Trent Shelton, one of my mentors, say, how much life. How many hours does worrying prolong your life? Hey, Eve. It's good to see you, buddy. Thank you so much for coming back. I appreciate the post earlier, but we would love to get your thoughts on doing more than you're paid for. You're always such a valuable person to our show here, but I need you to focus on doing more. I want to know what you are doing more and are you, in fact, doing less and understanding that worrying about all this is going to do absolutely nothing for you. Coach Dan is also a member of the Indiana Tennis hall of Fame. This guy, hall of Fame coach, doing more than you're paid for. I know that you didn't get paid a lot, probably, for coaching.
Probably not.
I did watch the Serena Williams 30 for 30 about her getting upset. Right. But she definitely gets paid. Oh, yeah, for sure. But when you think about doing more than you're paid for, what comes to your mind is an example of that or a story or an antidote.
What comes to my mind is if there are 5 million teachers and coaches out there, then there's 5 million people doing more than they're paid for.
Right. You can't.
You can't ignore the old adage that kids don't care what you know until they know how much you care.
Yes.
And I think the school that Glenn went to and I was fortunate enough to teach at Bishop Chantar High School, we had maybe 700 kids there, and it was so easy to get to know the kids and to really get involved with the families. One of the big payoffs there is parents would come in for a report card night or something. If you could say something specific to that parent about what their student was doing, they loved you for it. And from that point forward, you could really do nothing wrong.
Yeah, you.
You were seen as somebody that was invested in the school's mission and invested in the lives of the kids and building them up as more than just chemistry. It took me about 40 years, but I learned that not everybody has chemistry as their favorite or their best subject. Not like you did, but, yeah, just to get involved with the kids. And you're not paid for that.
That's good. So a couple of things. If you guys know a teacher or a coach we would love you to tag their name because look, we need to honor our teachers and our coaches. We'd like you to share this video. We'd like you to make sure you turn on your notifications because we are going to be here each and every day through the coronavirus till it's in. Because we know that people need positive messaging and one of these things is gratitude and hey, booster number one, be nice. That's what we did on Monday and what Dan was talking about is being a teacher. Any of you teachers and coaches know it's nice to get the parents on your side and to compliment and be nice to your kids. That would be good. Melissa Boyd, it is so good to have you on our show. I appreciate you coming. If you're a teacher and a coach, give me a thumbs up. But most importantly, I think probably the most underpaid people that we are getting that are doing more than they're paid for are certainly those people on the front lines and those are our nurses and our healthcare workers. Right? And so if you know a healthcare worker. Hey, John Traub, it's good to see you. John Traub, Teele Heating and Air, the oldest. Hey, we're giving you shout out, Johnny. I mean share this. Anybody that wants to come be with us, 13 minutes of positive, positive stuff. Hi, Emily, it's good to see you. My sister in law, I'm so happy we're talking about doing more than you're paid for. If you know a nurse, if you know a doctor, please make sure that you tag their name in our comments so they know that we're talking about them and thanking them. And more importantly, reach out, hit them with a text, hit them with a note. But look, you guys can watch two minutes of. Hi, Kelly Murdoch. Kichler. Kelly, it's so good to have you with us. You can watch two minutes of the news and feel like crap literally for the rest of the day. So whatever you've been watching, whoever's been talking to you, these 13 minutes are to help you create a positive attitude, to ask you certain questions, to have you think in your mind, what can I do to remain positive through all this? Because we know this. You cannot be a success. You cannot win in life and you cannot win over the coronavirus if you don't win in your mind first. And so that's what we're trying to do, is to give you exercises. Let's go on to number two. Number two is we talked about focusing on doing more in point number one. But the Other thing I want you to think about is the secret is effort. The true secret to having a positive attitude, maintaining a positive attitude, the effort. And I always like to talk about this saying, the effort is the biggest gamble in life, and some make more than others. When you look at the people that are succeeding, that are winning, that are always happy, that always have positivity in their life, that have energy, that have enthusiasm, they've won in their mind, but they've also taken the effort. They've also said, I am going to dedicate myself to the way I think I'm going to choose to do so. And the question is, on a scale of 1 to 10, how are you doing with that? And so what I want you to understand or what I want you to think about is what effort do I really put into staying positive, and what can I do to help spread the positivity in the other people's life? Dan, do you got anything else you want to add to this thing called do more than you're paid for? And if you. You're out there doing more than you're paid for, you know, somebody please hit us in the comments and let us know. Dan, what do you got for us?
This might be a little obtuse, but a gentleman that both of us had a lot of advice from. Harvey Sutton.
Yes. God rest his soul.
God rest his soul. He used to say, a man that cuts his own firewood is war.
Oh, man.
Now, think about the reciprocity there, and you think about what happens when you give a compliment to somebody or do something that affirms what they're up to. You feel that coming right back to you in the same way that cutting firewood will warm you up. And I just thought, yeah, that's wonderful. Doing more than you have to includes just affirming people and complimenting and smiling and just saying, hey, I think what you're doing is really nice.
This is why I'm going to start having guests on the University of Attitude Fireside Chat. I think Dan just gave us the best quote of the week. So, you know, I know you guys are all tired of hearing from me, and I'm going to try to be bringing in guests from time to time through zoom or whatever to share their wisdom. So, Dan, that is great. When you truly think about the biggest gamble in life is your effort to think about going out in the cold and cutting firewood, how people do find joy in that. And it is a bit obtuse, but if you're out there and you're listening and you know, people that do things that you look at them and go, how in the hell are they enjoying this? Such as possibly teaching junior high or high school children, such as being a nurse on the front line with absolutely no protective gear, putting yourself out there and serving and helping. You know, there's a reason that the nurses are doing that because they understand this concept of doing more than you're paid for. Kelly Kichler, thank you so much for doing this. Oh, Kelly, thank you. Now, we're doing this every day, every day during the week, Monday through Friday, 3 o'. Clock. So you keep getting people on. We are getting right around 4 to 800 views and a lot of people say, glenn, why the hell would you do this? You cannot change the world. And remember, we said, look, you can't change the world until you change your world. What I'm trying to help you do is change your world through the study of attitude and positive mindset. That's what I do. I also sell plenty of real estate. We're also selling homes, just so you know. But this is just 13 minutes, a 13 minute commitment to do that. Hi, Beth McKinley. You've been here every day and I really appreciate it. If you want things to be different, you have to do different things. I love that. So we want to know what are you focused on doing in the comments below. If you're looking at this later, please continue to add to our comments because we can all learn from each other and small hinges open big doors. Beth, that is awesome. I want to finish our thoughts on. Hey, this was our third try. Whether you knew it or not, we've tried this twice. It didn't work the first two times. Which means, look it, you know what, I didn't quit it too. See, sometimes success is just one yes away. It's just one day away. It's just one minute away. What you're really dreaming of, what you're really wanting to do, quite possibly could be just on the other side of the next minute. So please don't ever give up on what your hopes and dreams are doing, what you're doing. I want you to answer this question. Here's your attitude exercise for the day. Who has done more for you than you paid them for? Who in your life has done more for you than you paid them for? And I think we all know it's a teacher, it's a coach, it's a nurse. But I love you. Hey, A.J. brasi, A.J. brazi is going to be featured next week. A.J. was our attitude world, Attitude Award winner at Attitude Fest. He's our Global Attitude Award winner. The very first one. I can't wait for you to hear from AJ when we talk about love, adversity. So, aj, God bless you. It's good to see you, but I'd love you to type in your comments. Give me a name. Hey, Kate. It's great to see you, my friend. I'm so happy you're here. Please let us know who has done more for you than you paid them for in your life. And I'm sure you're going to tell me it's a teacher. I'm sure you're going to tell me it's a coach. And hopefully it could be a healthcare worker. But those are people that we need to recognize. The attitude exercise is number one. Recognize who that is. But number two, reach out to them on Facebook. Send them a handwritten personal note. Dan, do you have an example of somebody that's done more for you than you paid them for? Not to put you on the spot, or do you have anything else you want to say about do more than you're paid for?
I've got neighbors.
Yes.
We moved into our house 33 years ago, and all the neighbors around us are still there from 33 years ago. Every single one of them at some.
Point has done more.
Something more than even the average neighbor would do.
Yeah.
And boy, it just creates a community. Community of attitude. That's really good.
That's good. So let's talk about what you can do for your neighbors. You guys all next to somebody, right? What is something cool you could do to actually spread the goodwill? I mean, even if it's writing a note, Although that could be Jeremy, too, and putting something on their door, a handwritten note, or creating a poster or. Or raking leaves or taking out the trash. Just imagine what you could do. Look, nobody's paying you to do that, but the price of being neighborly is something. That's fantastic. The last thing I want to talk about before we hit our 13 minutes, not only is who has done more for you and what are you going to do for them today? That is your exercise. And to focus on doing more, not less, and to focus on not worrying, but being positive. Getting rid of worry through action. But the very last question I want to ask yourself is, what is your legacy? Nobody thinks about that. But what the coronavirus is doing is helping us all understand our true mortality and that we could all be gone tomorrow. We are not promised tomorrow. So my question for you is, what is your legacy? And if you don't know what your legacy is, what would you like your legacy to be? Today is the day to start your legacy. It is never too late to change your attitude. It is never too late to change the world. But most importantly, it is never too late to change yourself. Dan, I want to thank you for your kind words and for the quote of the week. Thanks for having me. Excellent job. I hope this 13 minutes of attitude and positivity helps you come see us every day at 3pm we are going to continue to do this and please remember you cannot win in life until you win in your mind. And I will help you do that here at the University of Attitude. Thank you so much. We are going to go change ourselves in the world one attitude at a time. Thanks guys.
