You. I'm Jacqueline Gray, the SBIR Program Manager at nist. NIST is part of the Department of Commerce. I'd like to tell you a little about NIST and then provide you with a brief overview of our SBIR program. NIST has a broad mission. We promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement, science, standards and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our nation's quality of life. NIST provides the tools that industry needs to compete in a high tech global market. This slide describes how NIST is organized. We have a total of five laboratories. The first two on the left address measurement science and the next three towards the right focus on technology. We also have a user facility as well as several extramural programs. The SBI program at NIST is very similar to other federal programs in that it is a three phase program program. The first phase, referred to as phase one, determines the feasibility of the research. The phase one award covers a period of six months with funding up to $100,000. Phase two is where the main research and development effort takes place and here the award amount is up to $400,000. Also shown is phase three, known as the Commercialization Phase. It must be noted that Phase three awards have no limit to the length of duration and Phase three is not funded with SBIR funds. Here is a Snapshot of NIST 2023 SBIR NOFO and award timeline. You can see that our phase one solicitation opened up on March 23rd and it closes on May 22nd, and the awards for phase one are anticipated to be made around the August September 2023 time frame. We also have a phase two solicitation currently open. It opened on April 6th and it closes on June 5th. We anticipate that awards for phase two will be made in the August September 2023 timeframe. Please remember that for the NIST SSBIR program, only phase two awardees are eligible to compete for phase two awards. And another note, SBIR awards We utilize cooperative agreements, not negotiated contracts. This slide shows the topics that NIST is interested in and NIST is looking for innovative ideas that have potential for commercialization in any of the seven areas shown on the screen. Remember that you just can't submit anything. Your proposal needs to be fit into any of the seven categories and also it has to be relevant to the NIST mission which are measurements, standards, and technology. Just to show you how competitive the SBIR program is, in fiscal year 2022, NIST received 125 proposals. We only had funding for 12 awards and in this in year 2021, we received 137 proposals. We only had funding to make awards for 11. And you could see a similar pattern for phase two in that not everyone will receive an award. We received nine proposals from the previous year's 2021 awardees, and out of those nine that submitted proposals, we only had funding for seven. Again, phase two for 2021 phase one awardees from year 2020. Out of that amount, 11 submitted proposals, and we only had awards for funding for six. This concludes my presentation of the SBIR program at nist. For more information on current and previous notice of funding opportunities, please go to the website that you see listed here.
