Navigate the updated HUBZone map

SBA's HubZone program fuels the growth of small businesses in historically underutilized business zones by providing certification for preferential access to federal contracts every five years. The SBA uses the latest available data to determine which census tracts and non metropolitan counties are eligible for hubzone designation. The hubzone map is then updated which allows new businesses to enter the program and in some cases areas that no longer qualify under the definition have their designations updated. Other designation types, including Qualified Disaster Areas and Governor Designated Areas, will continue to be added to the map during the five year period. With the launch of the updated Hubzone map on July 1, 2023, the SBA included improvements to the map that make it more streamlined and easier to use, including more geographic information. You can use the map to determine and document your eligibility for the HubZone program. The map helps you find out whether or not a business location or employee residence is within a Hub zone. To determine the eligibility of a business or Residence, follow these 1. Type the address or GPS coordinates into the search bar at the top of your screen. 2. Press enter or select the magnifying glass to search. 3. Check to make sure the right address was located. 4. Read the qualification status and local information. 5. Open a printable copy of the results. The legend is a visual guide on the bottom left of your screen that helps you read the information shown on the map. The map shows areas designated as Hub Zones using colors, patterns and different symbols. These areas include the census tract designated based on poverty and household income criteria located in non metropolitan areas that meet at least one of the socioeconomic household income, unemployment rate and difficult development areas. Indian land contained within the boundaries of an Indian reservation, Indian country, or any other specific definition that applies in the State of Oklahoma. Redesignated Area when qualified census tracts and qualified counties no longer meet the HubZone eligibility criteria, they enter a three year transition period called redesignation. During this period, they are still considered Hub zones. Redesignated areas always show an expiration date next to their qualification status. Qualified Disaster Areas Census Tracts and counties located in an area where a major disaster or catastrophic incident was declared by the President. For a census tract or county to be designated as a qualified disaster area, it must have become redesignated with within the period beginning five years before the major disaster or catastrophic incident declaration date. Governor Designated areas allow state governors to petition the SBA once a year to designate certain rural areas as Hub zones. Note that an area can have more than one designation type, for example a redesignated census tract that is within a Hub zone county. When navigating the map, you also can toggle on and off the county and tract boundaries. In addition, if you don't have a specific address you want to search for on the map, you can click on the map and still get an area's qualification and designation information.
